Actually, it probably is. Pithing or crushing the brain would probably be the fastest ways to euthanize a snake. So, either a club or a knife.

If snakes respond the same way to drugs they use to put dogs to sleep, I don't see why they don't use those. Even if they don't, there has to be some other way to euthanize a snake because:

Omg we are all gonna die they found 5 burms in a month lol. Hell the local animal control probably finds more then that in a day. Now granted that there probably are hundreds of thousands but it will not be that easy to find them in the great expanse that is the everglades. You could be 5 feet away from one in the thick brush but if it doesnt move you would never know it was there. But am rather unimpressed with this number.
