OMG! Finally!
As I posted in previous threads about my new breeding group, I got them from a new place and set them up with a few more things than the previous group had and wouldn't you know, I've got two definitely pregnant females already! I'm so excited. One female is beginning to show very small "golf balls" and is developing a slight waddle. I don't think she has too long before she pops. The other female is starting to show the pudge. The other female isn't showing anything yet but we shall see. The one female who is really showing is black with a white stripe across her back right before you get to her hips. The other pregnant female is brown (agouti?) and the non-pregnant female is also black with a white stripe across her back. The male is albino. I'm very excited to see what these babies will look like.
I plan on keeping a few females to grow up for another breeding group. I will post pictures of the group soon. (Taking pictures tonight)

Re: OMG! Finally!
Congrats, here's to large, healthy litters!

Re: OMG! Finally!
Thanks! :D I hope I get a big litter. I have a lot of mouths to feed. Haha. I've decided to name the breeders, not for attachment purposes, but for keeping track of bloodlines and such.
Cupcake: the obviously pregnant one

Cookie: the not so obviously pregnant one but still pregnant

The 3rd female looks just like Cupcake but she isn't pregnant yet. The male is albino and his name is Frosting. (can you tell I'm hungry, haha) No name for the 3rd female.

Re: OMG! Finally!
And the third female is pregnant. She's beginning to waddle and is developing the super pudgy belly. I've separated the females from the male so they can have their babies without being bred right after. So I have 3 females expecting litters, one right after the other. The first female, Cupcake is getting huge! She might pop in the next 5 days or so. Cookie might pop late next week. She's just starting to get the golf ball look.

Re: OMG! Finally!
Congratulations!
I'm still waiting/wondering if my girls are pregnant. I just weight them everyday, to see if there is any significant changes...
Which now I am wondering...If your picking up your females...would there be a possibility of a miscarriage?
Just wondering...only because I don't want that to happen...

The black mouse looks like she is wearing a thong.

Re: OMG! Finally!
:8:
I've never had a problem with picking up the mice and pregnancy. I try to limit handling to only getting a weight or moving them to another cage. Short periods of handling won't hurt them.
Cookie is starting to nest and Cupcake is starting to think about it (her nest is smaller than Cookie's.

Re: OMG! Finally!
I too try to limit handling of pregnant rodents (mice, rats, asfs) just to be cautious plus they are generally more irritable at that stage of development too.

Re: OMG! Finally!
Well I'm getting all sorts of surprises today. Cookie is currently giving birth! She wasn't as plump as Cupcake so I figured she wasn't as far along, but she's giving birth and all the babies look great so far. :) I can't wait to see how many there are! I'll get pictures when I can.

Re: OMG! Finally!
Well congrats! Hope you have a large litter...
I think my Gertrude is pregnant...and I don't know what to make of Nina...she sees me walking buy, and she runs for cover...Oh and Pablo Escobar, he's just a Mighty Mouse...he runs the wheel all the time, climbs, and jumps, he does it all...He has his little corner, where he sleeps too, and the girls bother him from time to time, but he just ignores them...
I would have to admit...Mice do have funny personalities...Unless they make a habit of eating their babies...I don't think i can ever feed them off...
Well I'm crossing my fingers in hopes of a prego...building their nests today...hopefully they will start preparing...

Re: OMG! Finally!
She only had two babies.:confused:
I'm pretty sure she didn't have more and eat them. She wasn't very big (hence why I thought she wasn't as far along).
The other two mice are plumping up nicely. Cupcake is about to burst! All three females are currently taking care of the one baby left (I fed the other off). I'm not sure if I want to let Cookie raise it to weaning age or if I just want to feed it off and put her back in with the male.

Re: OMG! Finally!
2 babies! whaaa? Sorry to hear that...Usually when they give birth the first time it goes down something like this...
My guess would let the little guy live...see what happens...I don't think the other two will neglect their future ones for one bigger one...
Just my guess...

Re: OMG! Finally!
Well I think with all the noise from yesterday (my sister and her friend came over to see the snakes and her and her friend are VERY loud individuals) I think Cookie stressed out and killed and ate her baby. I'm going to put her back in with the male today and see if she can try for another (larger) litter. The other two are plumping up nicely and I swear Cupcake is going to explode. She has to waddle like a duck she's so huge!

Re: OMG! Finally!
well good luck!...
I think mine are pregnant, will just wait and see i guess...

Sorry to hear that. I just had both of my older females give birth this past week. They have the babies hidden in their hide so I have not been able to get an accurate count. I think there are about 13+ total from the one glance I had. I also have at least one other pregnant female. Hope you have better luck with your other two females.

Re: OMG! Finally!
my long haired (fluffy) mouse should be popping out babies this week
-
Re: OMG! Finally!
I'm pretty sure its Cupcake that had her litter. The two black and white mice are almost identical. I will have to take a closer look at her white stripe next time I check on her. She had 7 pink jelly beans. I attempted to assist feed my hatchling with one (he didn't take it :() so that leaves 6 squeaking pink things! Its better than two. :) I will let her raise the remaining babies to wean age and I will pick a few females from the litter to form another breeding group. :)

Re: OMG! Finally!

Re: OMG! Finally!
Wow! Congrats on the big litter. Yea, I'm hoping to keep back some females to breed too. I was thinking that when I rearrange the animal room, I might go out and get a second breeding group and get them started while I wait for these babies to grow up. That way when they are old enough to breed, I'll have 3 breeding groups up and going. 9 females making babies for me! That should help out a little bit with feeding costs.
When my husband and I move and own our own home though, I'm going all out and getting a huge rack and setting up 16 groups of four females. :) That will produce enough for my current collection and my ferrets.

Re: OMG! Finally!
The other female dropped her litter yesterday. 6-7 babies. The mothers are keeping the babies in one pile and caring for all of them. Everyone has good milkbands and the moms look healthy. Pics to come later today when I get home from work!
