    sigh.....I lost my job.:(.
I didn't think it would happen to me. Thank god I live with friends who are understanding, as far as money goes. I have another one I'm looking at, so hopefully it'll work out.:(

Sorry to hear about that. I've been unemployed since March, and looking pretty hard since June. Definitely not a good time for it, especially if you're like me and you don't have any experience.
Good luck to both of you!

I have been unemployed for a little more than a month. It's not fun, and its not easy, but remember, everything happens for a reason.

We will all get thru it.

We got that happy news (TONS of sarcasm here) just this morning.

My partner/BF lost his job for very stupid reasons...and we have until October to find new ones (I will be seeking part-time work as well, since I was 'forced' to leave college, which was my income). Period.

I've been crying and frightened most of the day, but I have faith in his abilities. He found his first ever job in under a month, and the second (the one he just lost) in about a month. He's bilingual and has two degrees, so I know he's qualified...I'm just not sure about there being anything to get.

Lots of luck to all job seekers out there! May we all find what we need.:please:

Losing your job is a frightening experience, especially during economic times like these. I lost my job soon after 9-11, the last time there was a huge spike in layoffs, and when they first started extending unemployment benefits longer than the normal length of time.

Before 9-11, any time I was in the job market, it was an employee's market to pick and choose from offers. I was not prepared for the climate that I faced at that time.

My heart goes out to each of you in that situation now, I know how uncertain everything feels. One thing that helped me through was having ONE thing that I looked forward to each week as my "reward" for my new job (professional job hunter) each week. For me, that was doing a weekly outing with Canine Assistants, the organization that I volunteer with. It was a moment away from the job hunt, out of the house, and being with other people and the animals.

Find something to give you some mental time away from the search during this time, at least once a week - be it a long walk in the park, if you enjoy the outdoors, hanging out with friends, whatever allows you to de-compress for a few hours.

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you! I know that the right job will present itself to each of you!

Being unemployed nowadays is rough. I got out the military in time for the official announcement of a recession and everything going downhill. I found a job back in March by applying on my State's Workforce Services website. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about the ones who lost their job. I so far have been lucky I guess. I'm a Correctional Officer, so I don't see me losing my job unless I do something and get fired. They will always need correctional officers.

Man sorry to hear about it. It seems like I hear about this stuff all the time. I work for Mars in Oklahoma, and we can't get anyone to keep there job. We have like a 70% turnover rate. We,ve had 2 people quit this week(they said they were tired of working 12 hour days). Me just thinking, where else are they going to find another job. I just wish we could get some people that really want to work.

Wish you were in sc. I have no problem working 12 hours. Its better to be getting paid doing something for 12 hours then sitting on your butt at home being bored for 12 hours

I have been laid off a few times (the last was just in November of 2008). Every time it happens I fear that the world has ended. Total and complete panic!

But the funny thing is, EVERY SINGLE TIME I find a new job that ends up being much better then the last! And everything always works out just fine.

I'm so sorry! My dad lost his job back in December, so plenty of people are being laid off, as well. Still, I hope things pick up for you.

I'm sorry to hear so many people are suffering with this down economy :(

I'm self-employed, but have only gotten enough contract work since last November to pay my business insurance. Health insurance and other living expenses are coming out of our savings, since as a self-employed person I can't collect unemployment.

I think it will turn around though, so I have spent my summer fixing up my house and yard (without buying anything) and beating the bushes for opportunities. I'm hoping to capitalize on the bounceback so I'm resting up now and hoping to work 100 hour weeks when the economy turns around to build the nest egg back up.

Keep the faith everyone...just keep banging away at it and hopefully you'll score bigtime!

I never realized how bad the economy was in other places, Louisiana's economy isn't really too bad, as far as unemployment and people not finding jobs. Everybody should move down here to Louisiana.

I wonder if that has anything to do with Katrina? Many people left (the state, and their jobs) and never returned from what I understand. Also the rebuilding of southern Louisiana I would imagine creates more job opportunities.

A lot of people that left did return. The rebuilding probably has some impact on job openings but in general, they have various job openings around here. police, fire fighter, chemical plants, off shore jobs.

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat, been out of work since November of 08. My unemployment is about to run out and I'm getting rather worried. It does seem like though things do work out for the better, I'm hoping I'll find a job that I'll like (or at this point, ANY job). Good luck to everyone in this down economy with the job searches!!!:)

    Hey folks,
Take a look at your local unemployment office.
YOu may qualify for displaced worker benefits. YOu may be able to get that extension in your benefits if you have them now...
The displaced worker benefits are if your company moved out of state, moved out of the area OR were closed down... you can get school and some other stuff. I don't know all of it.
If you are a veteran, talk to the VA rep for your state and for your county, through the VA Admin and the VA reps at the local unemployment offices.
If you are a student, check your local university web sites, they have job listings for those who are students and for those who were or are part time students...
SOme are specific to students, others are people seeking former or current students to do OUTSIDE jobs.
Check the temp agencies, LTE type jobs, and since school is starting soon. all the teens and college students will be leaving so a good chance to get a job may be around the corner.

I am semi self employed, I am a part time nanny and farm worker.
    Hope this helps

Unfortunately I too am in the same position. I took a "Temp to perm" job, and it turned out to be just temporary. My BF has a pretty secure job, he works at a paving company as a Quality Assurance supervisor. The bigger town next to me is shutting down stores like crazy, the actual town I live in is so bare downtown it's scary!

Things will turn around, in time. Just gotta be patient. Our BPs have taught us well in that area, right? Lol...

It's really nice to have the support of your "peeps". When things are really rough, whether it be the job, the relationship, losses of family or pets, etc., we all know that we can turn to this forum for some warmth and a friendly ear. That's a great thing to know. God I love this place. :worship:

you're gonna do just fine I think, if you keep at it and stay positive. it may take some time but as you can see it's just the way things are right now and shouldn't be taken personally :-)

As for me, tomorrow I have my first interview since work stopped flowing 8 months ago! I really hope I impress them because it's a dream job in many respects!

I have had to lay off employees lately. I hate being the bad man, I know that by letting them go I am taking food out of their mouths. It is hard but at the same time I have to realize that by letting go of a few employees I am saving several more.

I hope you guys find jobs soon, hopefully it will be the job of your dreams.
