Awesome dad! I really love the BCI's! I was going to get one last week, it was a toss up between a BCI or a Carpet Python. I chose the carpet python because it was already much larger than the BCI. It was also really friendly when I was holding it so I decided to take it home.

    Awesome post.

I have him on Coco Husk for now. I put the BP on Aspen. When I switch over to a boaphile enclosure for the BCI I may use aspen, havent decided. He always goes poo in the water dish though so its easy for me to keep clean and I dont like the look of newspaper.

Cool... I just got one for my son too. I get a kick out of seeing kids "discover" snakes.

For reals huh... I swear these pet shops skimp by on the feeding of their snakes because they know they can go without eating for awhile. Those pictures actually make him look fuller than he really is. He looks more like a flat tire. I will fix that though.

I got my BCI from there too and he was the same way. He now has a lil over twice the girth as the other BCI that was in the enclosure with him when I bought it.

Most def.... Now if I could just get my 10 year old daughter to lose the fear. She held the BP with long sleeves over her hands though but wont come near the BCI..... My wife on the other hand, forget about it. I have a three year old lil boy also and he is all about some snakes, lets the red tail lick his face and everything. I dont think our one year old lil girl even knows they are alive but she will be raised with them so hopefully she wont be afraid.

Glad you got your son into snakes, now he will continue your legacy.

Coco-husk is a good substrate, holds humidity good, always has for me, on the positive side if you are looking to switch, t-rex cypress mulch(double milled) is a good substrate.

Well my son is three (will be four in December) and he jumped in with both feet. He named it before he even got it and for the past few days has been telling everyone about his " 'Bino Ball Pipe-thon" named Harry. If you catch them early curiosity will always win out over fear.

The BCI was exactly 1 yr old in those pics which was about 4.5 months ago. Currently he is about 35 inches and getting some decent girth going on finally. He is in between the thickness of a bratwurst and a small water bottle is the best i can describe it as Im not home at the moment to come up with something better...... I have him eating bigger sized small rats but he will take a small to normal sized medium with no problems if the store is out of smalls.

not sure on the weight of either one. the BP is skiny as all heck.... I will put comparison pics to the ones posted in a couple months to show the difference from now till then.
