How much did Balls cost 5 years ago?
    Hi,

I was wondering- how much would a baby ball python cost about 5 years ago if it were a normal?

I know someone who paid $250 then (from a large reptile distributer) and I was wondering what the likelyhood the snake is het for something.

    Thanks! :snake:

Exactly what I was thinking! I was told the snake was purchased from a large-scale reputable breeder in Rhode Island...but they didn't know much about morphs and couldn't say if it had any hets.

I have bought two normals -- both from reputable dealers. I bought one ten years ago, and it cost $90 (including overnight shipping). The other one I bought two months ago, and it cost $80 (including the overnight shipping).

From what I have seen, the normals have stayed about the same during the last ten years that I have been paying attention. It seems that the price on morphs usually drops the longer that type has been around. About 10 years ago, albinos were fetching 5-10K -- now I think you can probably get one for a grand or less.

    Just my $0.02

I think for almost as long as snakes have been in the reptile pet industry, the ball pythons(normal) have always been cheap, never over $100 for sure.

I dont remember normals ever being expensive. Around £50-£70 from pet shops, cheaper from private breeders.

    Morph prices however were crazy!!:rolleye2:

We have some pet shops around here that want to gouge your pocketbook something terrible with normals, but the one we have that is more driven to snakes sells theirs at $35.00

I bought a normal in 2004 from one of the places that usually overcharges a bit and I payed $60.00 and they still sell them for that price today.

I saw female breeder size normals go for $1200 about 3 years ago.

A Het Albino male would have run you around $300 or so in 2004...now they are $50.

In 2006 I paid $100.00 for a yearling "fancy" (translation very light reduced pattern normal). I love her and she is a beautiful snake and she has produced some really nice babies so I think I got my money's worth. ;)

In 1992 I bought my first ball python from an importer and she was a big gravid girl. I paid $60.00 for her.
