    First Eggs- Pictures!
They have some little spots on them, which I assume is normal. They feel like water balloons made of leather- weird! Neat, though. They look healthy to me. I felt evil taking her off them!

It's an avian incubator for bird eggs.

OMG, are incubators always that expensive? $399+

Avey makes reptile incubators, it looks like one of their typical cooler-based reptile incubators. They ARE expensive.

The cheapest incubator you can get you hands on is a still-air model that IS for bird eggs, called a Hova-bator by GQF manufacturing. It's only about 60 bucks. You CAN use the wafer thermostat with it, but I find it safer to hook it up to a herpstat. Hooked up to a proper proportional thermostat, it is extremely accurate. But it can only hold two clutches of ball python eggs, and only if you don't mind mixing them together. The incubator is too low to put a tupperware box inside it. They also don't stack.

Any incubators above that level will run hundreds of dollars (or more). I'm not really sure why, except that they are specialty equipment and aren't mass-produced. You can make your own out of an old refrigerator of any size quite cheaply. We turned a walk-in closet into an incubator this year.
