Decisions, Decisions....
Well here lately my focus has started shifting to next season, I got three more clutches in the incubator and 2 more girls possibly going to go for me, but I still can't help but look towards the future. When I got into Ball Pythons I bought my females young, because they were cheaper, and next year is the year that my morph girls and het girls will be up to size and ready to go. Getting pretty excited and trying to nail down all my pairings for next year. Do you guys go through your collection at the end of each season and nail down all your pairings for the next season, or do you wait until you start cooling your collection and start to see some of the girls "color up" before you decide who goes with who? I planning now, its a royal pain, but I am looking over each normal girl I got to see who would pair up best with each of my morph males, but it just got me thinking and I putting way too much thought into this too early, or are we all going nuts about right now? :rolleye2:

Heh....well, I have no pairings to fuss over. But I know myself and I know if I had a collection of breedable pairs, I would constantly be planning who would go with who. Heck, you should see my plans for all my imaginary snakes! :P Seriously though, if I were in the breeding game, I'd be constantly dreaming about not only "next" season, but several seasons out. Of course, circumstances and situations are always changing, so I would be flexible....but yeah....there ya go....ya got me dreaming about those imaginary snakes again! :rolleye2:

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
I make my breeding plan at the last possible minute... usually late November, just before I introduce males...
Of course like you, I'm thinking constantly about what I should put with what. I write lots of ideas down, (or I would forget!) but I don't finalize anything until the very end. I find that so many things can change in the last couple of months....
girls you thought would go, stop eating
girls you through wouldn't go, start killing the food big time
you may add a new male or female to your collection that changes everything
Just my 2 cents... hope it helps!

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
Have been thinking about my first breeding season next year, like justin said plans are changing already with my spider female and mojave female making some big growth changes etc...My original plan was to do 4-5 female attempts since first year, all them normal females but we will see what looks good come early november:)

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
I start planning right about now. Justin's right that several things can come up between now and when cooling begins, but I really like to plan it out early and then just make the necessary changes as I go. One of the best reasons to change my plans are the new combos coming out . . . like the caramel mojave and the enchi mojave. I get so excited to see the new snakes and then I start dreaming.

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
I normally hammer out my stuff for sure around OCT.. things do change depending on what male is doing the best job but for the most part everything gets nailed down around then.

Helps a great deal, Thanks Justin. Now how do you plan to get those odds to work in your favor like they do?!

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
I think we all think about it VERY often...just know not to make any definate plans until the last minute.

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
I tell ya Shaun what I've been doing is as a girl makes a solid 1500 grams I'l write '09 on the front of her tub. Then once I start cooling the girls down this fall I plan to keep an eye out on border line girls and plan for late pairing. Boy that are on the smaller side will be getting smaller girls and boys that are proven will be getting the Big ole honkers..
I know of certain pairings I'm doing for sure but untill I get down to it, everything is only on paper penciled in.

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
By end of august mid september I narrow down which girls will make the cut whether it will be for early pairing or late pairing and depending on that I will chose and pick who I will pair them with.

Re: Decisions, Decisions....
I have very tentative plans in my head this point in the season. I know for example, this year Winston will likely be paired with more females, since so many people have been inquiring about his babies. I know that Oliver, my het clown will be going with a particular girl this season, but I haven't decided who I'm pairing my YB or mojave with yet. I've got morph girls and recessive girls I'm growing up that should go in 2010/2011 that are when my more fun projects will begin. And I've got a dinker male I may put to one girl I'm thinking of. But for now, I'm just feeding up my females and will put more thought into it in late October, early November.
