First On the Way Out
This is our first hatchling this year on his/her way out. We let the female maternally incubate her eggs. To day is day 60. I have not been able to see the little one again this morning as momma is keeping a tight clamp on them. If I can get some more video today I will post it later This is a very beautiful normal female that we put a pastel, mojo, and a spider. She laid four healthy eggs and they have been doing great this whole time. I will keep you posted.

Re: First On the Way Out
Good on ya mate! I wanted to see what would happen in this case. Can you tell us the way you kept her and the eggs? What temps were used, Lay box..Anything you can :) I did a post recently that got a lot of answers. I will consider letting momma incubate her own eggs for my first clutch.

Re: First On the Way Out
well the only thing I changed in her tube other than normal is that I bumped the humidity up a little. It was at about 75-80% the whole time. Her themps were the same. She has a 89-90 hot spot, which is where she laid them and has stayed there the whole time. This egg was one that was at the bottom and to be honest from the look of it about a week ago it did not look real hot and we thought we were going to loose it. surprise, surprise, its the first one out. :D

Re: First On the Way Out
To be honest the main reason we decided to go this way is that we bought a not so hot incubator last year. She laid 5 eggs and we lost all of them except one. I figured this year we would let nature take its course for the most part. I know there are conflicting opinions about doing things this way but she did great.

Re: First On the Way Out
Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see them all out.
Question, I've read that after taking the eggs away from the mom when she first lays the eggs you clean her tub/enclosure real well and give her a bath so she won't look for her eggs. Do you have to do the same thing after the babies hatch this way? Sorry if it's a stupid question.

I am not going to act like a expert because this is my first time maternally incubating eggs but from what I was told is to let them all hatch out then do exactly what you said. Thats not a stupid question, heck I am learning too :sweeet:

Re: First On the Way Out
sorry everyone for not posting another video. one of the other eggs pipped later in the early afternoon. she had laid them in a pyramid type shape, which a lot of you that have seen before, and this one was on the side also. well like many people curiosity got the best of me. I decided to remove the mother and move the eggs some where I could keep a better eye on them. Mom is doing great and as of this morning I have one Normal out two more normals pipping and one pastel pipping. My very first morph to ever hatch. The male pastel that I put with her was a little under a year old. The female is now 7. I will post some pictures or video as things change. Thanks to every one for the support. Big thanks to Heather as you are always helpful and supportive.

Re: First On the Way Out
Congrats on your babies :D I loved watching my babies with their mom. I left them with her until all of them were out and now that's she's alone in her cage again, she's finally phasing out of her "I'll-eat-your-face-if-you-touch-them" mode.

Re: First On the Way Out
Congrats on your clutch hatching. Very nice that you decided to go the Natural route with Mom incubating the eggs. Better results than last year I see.:gj:

Re: First On the Way Out
well its took 67 days for them to all come out of their eggs with the maternal incubation. i ended up with 1.0 pastel and 0.3 normals. the normals all look different.
this one has almost no spots

this one is heavily spotted
https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil.../7/normfe1.jpg
this one, pretty regular normal

and the pastel

sorry the pics are not that great i was fighting with the lighting. i will not be keeping any of them but a couple sure are cute. :D

Re: First On the Way Out
oh and they all came out with solid white bellies. the mother is a aberrant normal with a solid white belly and the father is a pastel so....yeah. thought that was interesting too.

Re: First On the Way Out
I agree....it's very well put together, and the choice of music couldn't be better. And yes, it is law that you keep your first morph. ;) The ball gods will get angry ....
