    Goober, from the boob-egg
My big normal female, Daiserbeam, was bred to our lemon pastel, Butters. She gave us three BEAUTIFUL eggs, one slug, and one tiny boob-egg. We candled it, saw veins, and incubated accordingly. Every week, we candled it, and every week it remained viable.

We slit about a week ago, and sure enough, there was a tiny snake in the tiny boob-egg. Today, with some help, he's finally out.

I have to ask, just for my own edification, has anybody ever had a ball python hatch out this tiny? Were they okay?

Goober *seems* okay, there's no kinks or obvious physical deformities (aside from his funky shaped head), but we're still a bit nervous, obviously. Our vet's just a call away, after all.

And uh..... I knew he was going to be tiny and all but....

(please excuse my pasty white and bandaided hand)

15 grams. Goober weighs 15 grams.

I've never seen a baby at 15 grams! Wow!

Really, just see if he eats and lives ok. If he can grow and live like a normal ball python, let him! But treat him with care and good luck!

Is he going to be able to eat with a head shaped in that way? I am just unsure anatomically for swallowing. But he is cute none the less.

Good luck. He is SO cute! He should be able to eat mice pinkies. I have seen corn snake babies and they are TINY and that is what they eat. I will be sending positive vibs to your little goober :D

He is cute. It looks like his head is too big for his body. I did hatch out two sets of twins last season. They were all very small. I did not weight them though. They all started eating no problem, are still doing great.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

The tiniest baby from my first clutch was a bit bigger (about 32 grams), but same head shape right out of the egg. About a week later the head was just about normal, and she shed, ate 4 meals, and has since found a new home. Just make sure to keep him/her hydrated with the correct humidity and a water bowl.

That's pretty reassuring, glad to know he's not the first weird-headed little runt! We're definitely keeping him thoroughly hydrated.

He seems a bit tired today, and is really enjoying his hot-end. His "normal" sized siblings are all pretty exhausted too though, so I'm not *too* concerned. He's alert and flicking his tongue, I think the world outside the egg is a bit overwhelming, but we're keeping a close eye on him just in case he needs to go see the vet.

It's pretty much all I can do to leave him alone right now. I have to keep reminding myself that he's fragile and shouldn't be snuggled until he's started, stable, and strong!

    Re: Goober, from the boob-egg
Pretty much all you can do is house him properly, wait til he sheds and offer a live pinky mouse. You can leave it in overnight if you want to. Babies generally feed better that way anyway, especially for the first time.

His head is only shaped that way because he doesn't have any fat reserves there. It will go to normal as he gains weight. No worries :)

Yes, you probably did see him over on dA, I'm Cadaver-Love over there, lol!

Goober is doing his Goobery little thing! He ate a live pinky mouse and he's TRYING to go through his first shed. He even attempted to take f/t last night, but it was just JUST a tiny bit too big and he couldn't get it down. :( He tried really, REALLY hard, so I'm a bit worried about the amount of energy he burned through. I swear, it LOOKED like the perfect size! *headdesk*

Here are some updated pics, complete with slightly-filled-out-head:
