Question? Theory?
Okay so this upcoming season I plan to get around 2/3 clutches of Bp eggs. Anyways I heard a theory that some Bp's or most won't breed if they are bought and then a couple months later put into breeding. I plan on getting a couple female morphs to go with one of my males. Does this happen to most or is this statement false? I just don't want to be let down this season just like I was this past one.

Re: Question? Theory?
As long as they are the correct size and the conditions are right they will breed. Just remember to quarintine them first before putting them anywhere near any of your other snakes. My snakes have locked up after being purchased and after I put them through qt so I think you will be fine.

DON"T bank on this. It is quite common for snakes recently acquired to not go the first year you try to breed them. I don't care if they are proven breeders, 5,000 grams, whatever. I have read of, and experienced many times when this has happened.

Hmm... Im kinda confused on the whole thing as well. I might have jumped the gun and gave him a false sense of hope. I have had a few locks with a new female but still waiting on an actual ovy or pre-lay shed. You have more experience than me with the breeding mike, have you ever had one that you did purchase lay that same year?

Re: Question? Theory?
Well considering that even a move to a new facility can throw off production for a year...As stated by several big breeders I would have to say good possibility.... I have acquired several breeding size girls and attempted to breed them the same season... I have only had 2 or 3 actually produce for me that 1st season with me... So there is hope but I think that yes their is a good chance that the move will affect breeding.

Ha ha okay so there is a little hope, but a long-shot. My apologies to the original poster for jumping the gun on that response, Never Had that sorta problem so I jumped to a conclusion before doing the proper research or having the necessary experience in that matter.

Re: Question? Theory?
I can tell you that I had gotten a few males and females this last year in the hopes of breeding them two of them had been breeding prior to the move. None of them took not even the pair that was breeding before the move, they just shutdown. We're not even talking an over night trip we're talking a few hours via Delta dash. I think that they tend to pay way more attention to things like stress of climate change, elevation above sea level changes even the size and temps of the tubs they are housed in.
Now does this mean that you can't get the new animals and they will breed and produce? Not at all.
Merely that you should be aware that the odds of them breeding are slim.

Re: Question? Theory?
On the contrary, I had a female for two weeks and started introducing her male to her. This is what I found a week ago....So it is "POSSIBLE"(I should have played the mega millions)! Not gauranteed though.

Re: Question? Theory?
Well first there is never any guaranty that any animal will breed just because he is proper size and have the proper conditions.
Second shipping and moving can affect them many have recorded late seasons or bad season when moving to a new facility.
Last season I had just moved my animals to a new herp room (still in the same house but a level lower with different conditions) and this alone affected them, they resumed breeding however there was a clear interruption and my season was later then this year.

Re: Question? Theory?
Weellll...would YOU want to start makin' babies right away if some giant took the roof off of your house, picked you up, stuffed you in a pillowcase and then in a big box, shook you around for a few hours, took you out and stuck you in a completely different house with some stranger you never met before? :rolleye2:

Re: Question? Theory?
The big girl I received in February is gravid now. It took her a while but after quarantine she was locked up many times with a few different males. I didn't think she would go this year cause she is a very shy animal and I figured the stress from moving would affect her more.
My other big girl which we've had for a few years DID NOT go this year and was up to size and perfectly healthy. I feel it is up to the individual animal.
You can get big girls and take the risk that they might not go for you this coming season. You have to ask yourself is it worth it to you to spend the money on a proven breeder (which you can find very reasonable breeders for sale) or to raise up juvies till they are up to size/age. In the end, its your decision so do what you feel comfortable with. :D
