Re: some changes =]
There are a couple changes that I would recommend, but the most important would be to cover the back and sides of the tank with something opaque. Looks a lot better than before. :gj:

Re: some changes =]
good step in the right direction, looks much better. is that a stick-on hydrometer on the back side of the tank? if so, would recommend going digital along with covering the back and sides. also, is the lamp your only source of heating? If so,make sure you are monitoring your temps well- that tank looks pretty tall and may be a pain to heat properly with just the lamp, but like the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

i know what ur saying and no i do have undertank heating and the heat and humidity gauge will be replaced with a digital setup...aluminum cover helps keep humidity in such a big set up..ppl say its too big for a ball but i have 3 hideouts and i dont think she minds lol
thx for the feedback

A lot of people cut out black foam board to fit the outside. It works perfectly to make the snake feel secure, as well as insulate the tank a bit. Anything will work as long as it's opaque. You could even paint it black. The jungle terrarium backgrounds will also work and look good too, just make sure it can come off for cleaning. I used blue sticky tack on my foam board when I had a tank.

It still needs a little improvement but thats a good step in the right direction, Tanks to big, but as long as she stays feeding and has a good demenor than just keep it stuffed and hope she doesnt have any problems with it. :gj:

Quick question.... How big are you running of a tank? I ask because I have a 55 gallon that my 09 baby is in and there are ways to make it work..... of course the multiple hides.... I have it where my snake can get from one side of the tank to the other with out bweing seen if he so chooses. Then heat is your second concern.... As of yet I am in California so my ambient temps are nice and warm in my apart. and I am running with only a UTH..... Now humidity is the kicker when it comes to a larger tank, that i hcae seeen..... Now my normal humidty is at 45-50 normal for ambient.. plus I have two water bowls in the tank... now when I see that Rios is getting ready to shed the easiest way that i have seen to bump up the humidity is not the whole tank. Instead... I know that he will not really be leaving his hide while in the process, so I increase the humidity in the hide by placing a damp wash cloth over the hide itself. I am then able to just toss the wash cloth in the washer when it is dirty. I have had Rios for a couple of months now in that kind of set up and it has worked so far with him....

Believe it or not... there are four hides... two turned over black bowls, one rock hide, and one half log,... then there are three bushes ...... and then two water bowls. One on the cold side, and one on the hot side. There is a UTH that is hooked to a dimmer, and when Rios is going into shed I drape a damp wash cloth over the hide he is in to increase the humidty for shedding. Other then that I live in the Bay Area, CA where my average normal humidity is about 50-55 at normal and the average ambient temp in my apartment is already at 82. So I have not had to worry about increasing temps with an overhead as of yet... I may need to look into that in the winter, but I seriously doubt it since I like my house to be warm. Rios has not had one single issue with eating as of yet, and I have had him in this tank for a couple of months. He has shed just fine, and as they say a hiding snake is a happy snake... well the only time I see him is when I am up really late at night or if I disturb his sleep during the day.

Re: some changes =]
Hmm.... never had any feeding issues? If he has never been off feed than He must be doin fine in it. If he ever goes off feed than it should be pretty obvious what it is because that is a huge cage for an adult ball much less a baby, but if he is having no problems?

Re: some changes =]
No he has not had any feeding issues as of yet. He has been eating like a champ since I got him... He eats an adult F/T mouse every four days, and has been eating like that since I got him. I was asking the original guy who posted this thread what size his tank was because it looks to be about the same size as my tank, and if he is willing to make sure his snake is happy then it is feasible to be done.... as they say... A hiding snake is a happy snake... and the only time I see mine is either really late at night, or when I wake him during the day. and if he ever does go off feed, I will be checking to make sure the my five yr old son has not stressed him in any way way before I look at the size of the tank. It is feasible and plausible that a BP can be in a larger tank,.. one just has to make sure that the ambient temps, the under belly temps, and the humidity is correct and multiple hides seem to be a good thing too.... Rios uses three of his four "hides" and then seems to favor one of the three bushes for lying under.....

hmm well idk if UTH is enough my ball is a 08 shes almost 1.5 year old..to start off i had her in a 30 gallon and she was fine i moved her into a big tank i had problems in the beginning...this is a tall BIG tank so lamp and UTH seems to b enough to heat it..KEEP in mind that the FOIL on the screen cover helps keep both humidity and heat b4 i started warping it in foil u can forget bout a good humidity level.... and to answer other questions she has never had a problem feeding and other then that i dont think she minds the take being soo big..i have 3 hides and she uses all 3

No worries MattA.. I am one of the people around here that does not mind a big tank......Now each house is different and will have diffferent requirements... If an UTH and lamp is what your house needs to keep it right then go for iit. and I am happy that your 08 is eating well and using her hides... you will be the best judge of what makes her happy..... I think that your setup looks fine dude.

no problem. and thanks for the compliment.... I was going for a more "natural" look with all of the bushes and then realized that he likes them for hides too.....he is a bit odd so I am not too worried... I just spoil all of my snakes so they normally get more then what is "needed".....heck.. my garters are in a 40 gallon tank.
