Holy crap accurate reporting on World News last night!
I know alot of ppl don't watch the news and especially on Sunday but I try to watch it every night when I can. Last night World News (ABC) did a 5 minute spot on the Python hunt in the Everglades and had some back information about the issue with them. It actually made no mention of irresponsible pet owners or the little girl getting killed a few weeks back. The news stated that the "non-venemous" pythons became a problem when hurricane Andrew hit and released tens of thousanands of captive bred snakes into the wild which is why the current bounty hunt in the Everglades is going on. The show made mention of Bill Nelson and his bill to ban all pythons or boas but stated it was unrealistic as it wouldn't solve the problem and that large snakes are here to stay. They did mention that these pythons are known to go after pets and even alligators but that is true so whatever.
I must say I was shocked how unbiased the report was. No misinformation, they had handlers and expert herps showing off medium sized regular and albino burms and one of the handlers was commenting on how docile the snake was. I saw the preview for the news spot before they went to commercial and was all worked up and ready to be angry lol. Bravo ABC!

Interesting that the one female talking at the end (I believe she is with the Venom 911 team?) addresses the death of the kid as the "infant that was "allegedly" killed by the snake", and then she goes on to say that it was all due to poor ownership, and not the snake. All in all it was pretty good looking for us I would say. Maybe it got seen by enough people.

Was this on ABC World News with Charles Gibson? If so, my mom watches that religiously every night. I'm sure many other people follow it too - it's an excellent news program in my opinion. This is awesome press and really puts reason in the place of fear. Way better than many I have seen that make snakes out to be public menaces that are out to get us. Bravo ABC News.

That is awesome. I saw a 4-5 minute segment on the python ban last night, but it was complete opposite of what this segment achieved. They used alot of the same clips, though. And mainly the ones that portrayed the snakes poorly. Like the one where the python is trying to overpower the man, and the one where the snake strikes the camera. I made a post about it in a different forum. This segment did an awesome job of showing the other side of the coin.

Someone should send this to Fox and tell them this is what a professional story on the feral snake problem looks like.
Not the agenda based attack they did recently.

Someone should also send an e-mail to world news tonight and thank them for the well done news segment.

Wahoo, my grandfather and I were so supprised by that report. I am happy to see that there are people hunting them now. I had sent a suggestion like this to Mr. Nelson. Go ABC News!!!!

best reporting ive seen in a while :)
Re: Holy crap accurate reporting on World News last night!
there really is not snake problem in the everglades. it's a great time to be a snake and live there right now.
Wildlife authorioties make these habitats so friendly for mammals, it's only natural that a reptile comes along and takes it place.
Human interaction made it this way on both accounts. I am still rooting for the snakes.

Oh the snakes will win, there are estimated over 150,000 of them in there now.
Oh, and someone asked if this was World News with Charles Gibson. It was World News yes, but on a Sunday so it wasn't Charlie reporting.

There were millions of bison not to long ago also. And some how they were brought to the brink. If people really tried on these pythons they would be gone in maybe as small as 10 years. Humans are just to good at wiping out species. For once though this could actually turn out to be good.
