Handling While Shedding?
Our new snake has those blue-grey eyes at the moment, and the body color has become so very dull. Looking at that helpful sticky re. shedding, it seems that there's still up to a week before the actual shed.
Can BPs be handled during this period? Or should it not be touched until the old skin has come off?

Re: Handling While Shedding?
you can handle them but they get really irritated and defensive as they cant see very well so handle with caution.

Re: Handling While Shedding?
You can handle the snake, but it usually stresses the snake out even more. When snakes are in blue, they are a bit stressed so that's why some snakes will strike and hiss when they are shedding because they don't want to be bothered. And when snakes get stressed out, they will not have a great shed that comes out in one piece. You can handle, but try to handle as little as possible.

Re: Handling While Shedding?
I like to give my snakes some alone time while they are shedding. It is just easier on their nerves. Mine don't even come out of their ball when they are in blue...so they are kind of boring to hold :giggle:
Stress is not a factor on how the shed will go though, humidity and proper husbandry is.

Stress has no factor on how the shed will be, proper humidity and husbandry are the factors that affect the shed. also most of them will not eat during there shed cycle and like to be left alone and stay under there hides during the entire cycle.

One of my snakes is in blue stage and in this stage the are very grumpy I would suggest not to handle unless you want to get bit!

Re: Handling While Shedding?
Mine are fine with handling, but since they cant see anything, they just sit there when I do handle them, so I realy dont bother them for nothing anymore. My female even eats with blue eyes, the male 1/2 the time he will eat with blue eyes.

Re: Handling While Shedding?
Hi all, thanks for the feedback. Patriot ate yesterday too, blue eyes and all, although she's recovering from probably never having been fed enough in her brief lifespan.
I haven't seen her out much this week, so I'll follow her lead. It's just so hard to be hands-off a brand new pet whom you want to heap the loving on, y'know? Bloomin' snakes! http://bestsmileys.com/love1/3.gif
BTW, Kaorte, thanks for all the helpful answers you've given to this clueless newbie these past couple of weeks. You're one of the most helpful people here, to everyone! Alas, I didn't know what that "Thanks" button was for at the time. Consider yourself thanked an extra couple dozen times from me, LOL! http://bestsmileys.com/textinbubble1/25.gif

Thats great that she eats during shed, some of mine will and some wont. yeah wait till your first morph, that's when the trouble usually begins.
Now just make sure your humidity is good and wait to see your awesome looking fresh-shedded snake. they look so great after there sheds.:)

I can't wait to see her as I can't get over how D-U-L-L she's become. Thank goodness humidity is good here, being a stone's throw from the coast. It's always around the 70% range in the tank, without any misting or anything.
And don't you start tempting me with morphs! I'd probably love to have a dozen snakes, LOL! But out of all the morphs I've seen, the plain ol' Normal is still my fave. :)

Re: Handling While Shedding?
ya, i just leave mine alone.. not a precautionary move, but they're just lame when i do LOL.
my norm still licks and looks around, but she stays put. adorable, but not as fun as when she explores my labyrinth of towels, playn hide'n'seek :D

Same here. I just held ours for about 20 minutes, and it didn't unfurl at all. It's gaining weight nicely, so I'm dying to see how much more filled out the body is. Patience, patience...
Still took about a dozen photos, though. :)
