What's the most you would pay...
For a VERY nice male spider hatchling? I ask because I was at East Bay Vivarium today, and they had this adorable tiny spider BP... he was priced at $350, which seemed pretty steep to me. They said "you pay for quality," and I know they have really well-bred snakes - but isn't that kinda high anyway? I'm too broke regardless, but was just curious since I'll be getting one eventually. ;)

Well, the Spider at one of my local reptile stores was the same price. Though, I can purchase one fat a reptile expo for a hundred dollars less than that.. maybe even lesser than that. If the Spider has beautiful coloration, has no sickness or parasites, and is nicely rounded, I would say that's a fair price.

I've mostly seen them for around $250, but just noticed 8Ball charges $350 for a male hatchling... so I guess it isn't that high for a good one!

I've seen spider males at $300 average so 350 isn't that unusual. I think that's the maximum I would go though.

Honestly, for a VERY nice one that I liked very much, probably pay what theyre asking, and from what Ive seen thats anywhere from 300-400.

Thanks for the responses... wish I had taken a picture, but alas I did not. :( He was pretty smokin', though - very light color, clean pattern, and only one tiny spot. Super cute!

Honestly, in my opinion...you cant go wrong with a spider. EVER. Just sayin. They are outstanding any way they are.

For me price isn't as much an issue as the quality of the animal. Would I pay 350.00 for a Really nice Spider male. YEP and not think twice. Once people realize that the price is per animal and not morph specific you will quickly get past a little higher price for a hot animal. I have paid over retail for animals before simply because I wanted them and that was the price they were asking.

If you like the snake and can afford 350.00 the buy it. Personally I think 350.00 for a spider to too cheap. but thats just me.

Very true... :) I can't really afford him right now, but I'm hoping to pick up a spider at the San Jose show (or through a breeder) in August. It's good to know what I should expect!

Yea thats a great price. I think BHB and Ralph Davis sell theres for 350-400. Spiders go from anywhere from 250-500. So if you were to buy the Spider you'd be getting the average price.

Re: What's the most you would pay...
I just paid 225 for a female spider and a male pastel together, but I would've paid normal spider price for her alone.

A deal is always nice, but for higher quality, they sometimes deserve the higher price. Especially in the graded morphs. :gj:

$350 is the most I would pay for the absolute perfect spider I was looking for.

There's a breeding sized male spider at my local pet store for $350 and they tend to overcharge, so I wouldn't pay that much for a hatchling.

I am planning on spending 350 on a female spider within the next month, plus shipping she's 400. I think it'll be worth it.:gj:

EBV is very over priced in my opinion. I think that's in part due to being one of the largest specialty reptiles stores in Northern CA. I think that 350 is a ok price for a 08' but not for a 09 hatchling, 250 would be a good price. I myself would never buy a morph from EBV.

Yeah, I think you are right. I was surprised at the $200 price tag on an adult normal, so I should have expected high prices on the morphs. We really do have a lack of reptile shops, which is why I've been dreaming of opening one. :) Also just a Bay Area thing, since everything is overpriced around here! Guess I'll see how prices are at the SJ show, otherwise I will get my next snake online.

Lolo76--- I know the owner (Jeremy) who puts on the Sacramento Reptile Show and he said that so far he has 2 confirmed Ball Python morph breeders that will be at the show, there should be more but that's all I have heard. If you can make it down it should be a excellent show!

I'd like to find a male spider, mojave, lesser, butter, or possibly albino... and if they're of/near breeding size, I would also take a nice female pastel or spider. :gj:

Sounds cool! :) I've only been to one show, the Herp Expo at Cow Palace in May... and while I did find my Toby there, it was disappointingly small and empty.

Re: What's the most you would pay...
Honestly I would pay top dollar and not think twice for animals I find are high quality. I paid $200 for my 200 gram Male Pastel and $500 for my 2400 gram female NORMAL.

I would pay a lot more then that for a really smoking spider. I want to breed for quality and will pay the price to do so. But that's just me.

Good luck and I hope you find the spider you're looking for soon. :)

I can tell you guys that a Spider BP in Europe goes for around $600-$1000!

No wonder we get so many BP's from the US:)

My own BP is also imported from US.
