Well, when I first started to admire the BP is when my sister purchased one. It wasn't a very nice snake though, but it was still pretty cool. When I was 10 I owned a Corn snake at first, then a King snake to a Milk snake. In no time I had 3 snakes, and they were all pretty cool. After my Corn snake passed away, I only had the two snakes. After that, when I moved into my new house, I got an albino Corn snake. That snake stop feeding and was infested with mites. We took it to the vet and they got rid of the mites and the snake started eating again. It died from regurgitation, just like my first Corn. After that snake died, I went to a pet store that had tons of reptiles. I purchased a King snake, but I didn't really know what morph he was since he had all these mixed colors and what not. After having those two snakes, I started hearing more and more about Ball pythons. I begged and begged and finally one day I purchased my first BP. A while after that, I also acquired a Dumeril's boa, another Corn snake, and a BP. All are still alive and well. Kind of a long story but oh well:)

It's "Mrs. Pretzel" that most stands out in my memory. She was the snake used in a local Humane Society demonstration at our kids' preschool. Next was a BP someone at a nearby Carl's Jr. had around his neck, which I asked to hold. Any time I saw a snake out in public like that, it was always the same type, which I later learned was the ball python. :)

I used to own tarantulas years ago but I ended up being allergic to those hairs they like to kick off at you so I had to sell them and try a different hobby. I decided that I'd like to try owning a snake or snakes. I wasn't sure what breed to get but I looked up "snakes for beginners" and the two that popped up the most were corns snakes and ball pythons. People told me to get a corn snake as my first since they are less picky when it comes to feeding but I just liked the look of the ball python and liked everything I read about them from their docile nature, to their stocky build, to just being a calmer snake overall than any other, from what I was reading at the time. I haven't been disappointed. Best pet I have ever owned by far!

I used to work at a few reptile shops in Miami when I was 17. (Chun Ku of MIA reptiles now Dynasty Reptiles and, Natural Selections) I used to have a breeding colony but none of the morphs I wanted (pastels were running at the 600 dollar range for males!). So i guess I learned about balls working under Chun and Elise. Great guys that taught me a lot. :D

Not sure when I first heard about them, but I'll tell you the story behind my first purchase! I was managing a library last year, and we hired somebody from the East Bay Vivarium (in Berkeley) to do a kid's program. I was of course fascinated, and after the show I told the guy how I'd always wanted a snake... he told me to stop by the viv sometime, and six months later I finally made it out there. My original plan was to get a Rosy Boa, but they handed me a baby BP - and the rest is history. :)

Re: how did you learn about bp's
There's a local guy who runs a wildlife safari (I'm not too impressed, all his animals are kept in too small of cages; the only ones with any form of freedom tend to be the four legged ones) and one year, he set up a booth at the local fair. While my step-sister was getting her picture taken with the fennec fox, I opted to hold one of the ball pythons. I didn't hold it for very long because the sheer strength of it surprised me and borderline scared me.

Still, I was fascinated and started doing research. As it stands now, I drool over numerous morphs; the leutistic and axanthic anything being my favorites.

We have Cats and Dogs, but my Son wanted a cool pet, Something different. I talked to my co-worker (Snake Doc) whom has Ball Pythons and he invited me to a Show in Raleigh, NC. There we purchased Yoda.
My son lost interest in Yoda very quickly but I in turn became addicted to them and now I have 9 Ball Pythons. All from a visit to a Reptile Show. Great thing is My Wife and Son love my new hobby due to the fact it keeps me at home.PEACE:rolleye2:

I don't remember how I got into ball pythons..I was looking for a pet and I wanted a bearded dragon because my mom would not let me get a dog. I then discovered a ball python and I was going to buy a hatchling ball with its cage, heat, and accessories for 75 bucks but then my mom's co-worker told my mom all the bad stories of ball pythons(irresponsible owner) and my mom said no but before that story my mom said if it is alright with my dad.A year later, I got my first ball python, his name is Allah and is the best eater! And what was great was that when he was at the store they never feed him but when I got him I offered him food and he took it up!Now I always look at ball pythons everyday and also resist holding my ball python all the time to not stress him out, but I can't help it, their so cool:)

And I am in the market for another snake...Jungle or Bredli..

I had seen them around for a while when I was younger, but my parents opted to by me a tortoise as a child. Eventually it got too big and we ended up donating it to a local guy who has many exotic animals that you need a license for in New York. Gave us a free show and told me that if I ever wanted one he could give me a really good deal in return for the tortoise. That was years ago and now that I finally have a ball I'm trying to get in contact with him to see if he remembers me haha.

I had wanted a snake for a long time and I started out with a garter that I had purchased. I then seen a ball python in a pet store and thought they looked pretty cool. I did many months of research on their care and husbandry. I now have my first ball python and I hope to some day have more.

I have had snakes since I was a kid. I got my first ball python about ten years ago. I have no idea when I learned of the species, but I know when I got her I knew they are nice snakes and a good size, etc. I learned about morphs more recently. I'd known of albino, but the rest were a surprise. Piebalds made me really excited to breed.

Re: how did you learn about bp's
Well I was about 8 when my neighbor showed me what a ball python was and I am pretty sure I was afraid of it at first. He let me hold it and it wasn't nearly as frightening as I was expecting. My parents wouldn't let me have a snake so last year (i was 22) My husband and I went to the pet store and I randomly said I wanted a snake. I wanted something different, something I had wanted before and never obtained. I was looking at corn snakes at first and I had my heart set on one. Kevin convinced me otherwise because he wanted a ball python. We didn't pick up a snake that day and we did a bit of research and that is when I discoverd Ball python morphs!! Needless to say we bought one from a friend and a year later 1 turned into 24. They are still coming. We actually received 2 pinstripes today. :gj:

How did I learn about Ball Pythons...

    hmmm...

    I can't remember...

Sunday School? When they spoke about Noah's Arch?...Noah decided to bring A normal and a pastel on the ship I believe...

Asking me how I learned about BP's is pretty much asking me how I learned about a hamster, or a parrot, I don't remember, my guess is a Petshop...been walking in them alone since around 6 or 7 years old...(they're was a petshop across the street from my house...)

I've been keeping snakes and other reptiles/amphibians for the last 24 years. So I've know about ball pythons for a long time.

My parents owned a large pet store when I was a little kid and I remember picking ticks off wild caught ball pythons and then dosing them for parasites when I was only around 7 years old.

Re: how did you learn about bp's
I'm a huge animal fan and I tease my BF (who's allergic to anything that has fur) to go into a pet shop and "just look" all the time. Well one day we were right next to Petco and he started walking in, and I followed. I was awe'd by all the reptiles, and there was this guy there looking at the BP's. There were 3-4 in a cage (which now I'm kinda pissed about) and one was roaming alot, makes me even more mad. He told us a few things about the snakes, why the name "ball python" and some other things. After that I was interested in Corn Snakes, but my BF said if we're going to get anything get something that will be a little big... So the idea of a Ball Python was born!

My first encounter was in 92(?) I saw Reptiles Magazine with a Albino BP on it and was hooked! I read every book I could buy with my allowance or get from the library (which wasn't much!) Back then there was not much info out there and what was out there later turned out to be real bad info. Stay away from Melissa Kaplan!!!!
I still haven't purchased a Albino, why I dont know. I do have however have a very nice hypo, YB, Black Pastel, Pastel and 2 normals! I love Ball Pythons!

In 2001, Reptiles Magazine had a ball python morph issue. Needless to say my jaw was on the floor at the color and variety of all the morphs. I was literally pointing at all the morphs I wanted, and figured I'd go out and buy all of the ones that caught my eye. Just starting to dabble into reptiles I went to a popular reptile website to check out prices on morphs. Needless to say, I was completely dismayed at the astronomical prices. People were taking out loans and mortgaging their houses to afford these animals! I decided on a normal and only until recently since prices have now become affordable, have I gotten into the morphs.

    Current collection:
    0.0.1 Normal (original)
    0.1 05 Normal
    1.1 08 Mojaves
    1.0 07 Albino
    1.0 07 Pastel
    0.1 09 Orange Ghost
