    Super Pastels question
I have a question about the Super Pastel BP. I notice that some of them have bright colors when they are young. The internet is flooded with photos about them, but I notice that all of them are young. I couldn't find any of them old enough to see the difference (about 5 or 7 years or more than 2000g). Did they loose that clear bright colors when they grow up?

Some do some don't. Depends on what you buy. Some are born dark and the in there later years become lighter. Most are born light and in there later years become darker. It all depends on what you buy,

They lose a little brightness in the first year. I'll let you know the rest of the story in 4 to 6 years! LOL

    I like to see...
Anybody have any pictures of older ones? At least 2 years and up? And also pics of the same snake when young. That would probably help a lot.

Saying "it depends on what you buy" doesn't help people learn how to pick a good hatchling from all the others. I think many of us know that it depends on the snake and it's genetics. So how do you personally pick a good one?

I try to look at its' parents if possible, that's not always easy. I also like a lot of blushing on Pastels. Not everyone does. Haven't got the money for a super yet. One of my Pastels is in my avatar. I just love him.

Super Pastels darken quite a bit as they age... I dont have enough experience to determine which, if any will maintain good coloration years down the line, but I generally see them darken.
The key would be to mix them with another morph that acts as a highlighter with Pastels. I know Fires tend to do that well and Bryce at the Reptile Image just hatched out a Super Pastel Fire (will try and have him send me a photo)...
Here is a few week old photo of a Super Pastel Special which incredibly gets brighter with age...

I just went to take photos of a 2 year old and a much older adult Super Pastel when I realized my batteries are dead! I will post some tonight!

I would also do a search for the term "Super Opal". That is a AKA for the pastel. There are some beautiful photos of Super pastel/Opal's in the BEST Ball Python book hands down: Pythons of the World, Vol 2-BALL PYTHONS: History, Natural History, Care & Breeding
It's by the Barkers at VPI.com

here are some links that look to show adults as well as babies-- http://www.newenglandreptile.com/ner...ll-python.html

That is a link for a image search.

You also might want to look into a super pastel yellowbelly if you're looking for that bright yellow. You can see Albey's male in this thread.
