Already thinking about upcoming season!
I'm already thinking about the upcoming season and who I'm pairing with who. Akina is gaining weight after laying eggs this season. She was around 1300g after laying 6 eggs (she was a little over 1800g when I started pairing her). She is now 1466g on an empty stomach and having pooped. :) If she laid on May 4th, when could I start considering pairing her up? How long of a rest should I give her?
Sadis is gaining weight like crazy. When I got her in August of 2007, she weighed around 90g. Now almost 2 years later, she's 940g. I will be pairing her with Xefaud, my 100% het pied male. 50% poss. het pieds!
Shane is a little slower to gain weight. She's only around 850g. She will be paired with Auxy, our spider male. I will of course wait till everyone is up to 1500g but its fun to think about who's going to be paired with who.
So for the 2009-2010 season I'm hoping for spiders, pastels, and 50% poss. het pieds. :)
I highly doubt I could get my pinstripe girl up to weight for the season. She's only 500g (picky eater for a long time). There is no way she'd put on 1000g in time. She's now eating 2 adult mice a week, but I'm going to bump her up to rats next week. :)
So what is everyone else planning for the next season?

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
We have three normals up to size or very very close, and we have a het albino that is close, too. Everyone else is too small. Our pastel female, and another normal, will be ready maybe next year. Our pied female, our black pastel female, and our Mojave female probably two years...
So for this year, three normals and a het albino
Normal one will go with Pied male
Normal two will probably go with Mojave male
Normal three will probably go with pastel male- black pastel male is too young
Het albino will go with albino male

How long should I give Akina to rest before breeding her again?

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
As far as thinking about next season..No...I still got clutches from this season to be laid. But in the back of my mind I do know of a few pairings that I will do for sure.

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
No, I sold my female pastel. I was going to get another morph to work with but we hit a financial snag so no new morphs coming in this year.
I will be trying for Bees next year though. My best friend and I are going to go into breeding together. Well, the business won't be together but we will lend each other snakes for breeding purposes. She has a female spider and I have a male pastel, so not this season, but the following season, we will try for Bees.
Also during that same season, I will be trying for Spinners. :)

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
I'm not sure how long you should wait. Will she be receptive/ovulate before she's ready?

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
I'm not sure. I don't want to breed her too soon, so I'm wondering how long she should wait before breeding again. I began breeding her last year at the end of September. She had her pre-lay shed on February 23rd, and laid 6 eggs on May 4th. One baby hatched on July 7th. All the other eggs went bad.
As soon as Sadis and Shane hit 1500g, I'm going to breed them. Not sure how long it will take, but they are getting a small rat each once a week. The rats are about 80-100g each. How much of that do they turn into body weight for themselves?

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
good luck wit getting your girls up to weight. i have a female pastel and spider around 700g that i highly doubt will double their weight in 4-5 months but i still have: female pastel at about 1000 grams, F spider at 1350g, 2 female double het caramel/ghost at 1100g each. male lesser for the spiders, male spider for the pastels and a double het caramel/ghost M for the hets. and of course some normal females to add to the egg count lol. so for me im hoping for lesserbees, bumblebees, caramels, ghosts and caramel glow. could be a big season for me. good luck with your spiders, pastels and hets. :)

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
This coming up season is going to be my best yet! I know i say that every year, but that is just how this hobby works. :gj:
It will be my first year that i have a shot at some supers and some combos! I will do a quick run down of my females that should be ready to go and the male(s) i plan to pair them up with:
07 pastel female - This girl came over to my place on a breeder loan, and i am thrilled about it! The reason that i got into this hobby was that i fell in love when i saw my first bumblebee. At the time, they started at $2500 which was way out of my price range, so my only alternative was to try and make my own. I will, in what will be my 3rd breeding season, finally have a shot at producing one. I will also be pairing this girl up with my lesser and cinnamon pastel, in addition to my spider. "Who's your daddy" clutch ... pastel style!
2 x 06 cinnamon pastel females - These cinnamon pastel females also came to stay at my place for a couple seasons for some joint breeding ventures along with the pastel female. The first girl will be paired up with a cinnamon pastel male to try and produce some super cinnys. The second girl will be paired with my lesser. The few photos i have seen of lesser cinnys look amazing. I think it is a project with a lot of potential, and would love to take it a step further and eventually try and produce a super cinnamon lesser.
2 x 07 pos het pied females - This one i am sure you can guess my plans. I picked up a 100% het pied male which is already breeding size, which will hopefully prove these girls out as 100% hets. One girl came from a het to het breeding. The other girl was sold to me as a normal, but she does have the markers, more of a hunch here. This will be my first time working with hets and recessive genes, and i have my fingers and toes crossed for these pairings.
3 x adult normal females(ages unknown) - These girls i will most likely just run my whole arsenal of co-dom/dom males through. I have a cinny, lesser, spider, and a mojo, with all being bred before except the cinny. I had a lot of fun with the "who's your daddy" clutches this season, so that will most likely be my plan for next year as well.

Re: Already thinking about upcoming season!
After successfully breeding my female normal to my albino male this past season (the only two that were of size & age) i am now ready for some combos and other things. Here's the plan:
Female Spider x male pastel
Female het albino x male albino
2 female normals x male mojave
I know my sig says i have a female mojave but i just picked her up and she is only about 3 weeks old.
I hope it goes as well as my first breeding ever which was last year. I got 8 eggs all fertile and a 100% hatch rate. Couldn't be happier with my 100% het albino babies.
