    Yummy Golf Balls!
The first colony I started is doing great. This will be the second litter for the two bigger girls. I started with only two females who were meant to be feeders but I noticed they were pregnant so I kept them and started my first colony. After their babies were weaned I made them bigger tubs and added 2 more females and a male (with no problems since it was a completely new home). So far 3 of 4 girls look like they have eaten golf balls :gj::D

    Enjoy!

They are all very friendly I might add... I can pick each one up by the body and they just kind of relax in my hand and they always seem to want to come out and "visit". I guess I lucked out cause I've spoken to some friends about them and theirs are crazy (biting, jumping)!

I have some that are jumpy, some that are just scared of everything, and I have one that anytime you even look at her she jumps at the top of the tank trying to kill you.

They are like most other animals and seems to have personailities of their very own. :gj:

But I would say be careful handling once they do have fresh babies in the tub.

No doubt they would be protective :gj: I check on them daily but unless there is a problem I leave them alone till the babies are exploring a little.

Congrats! I love ASFs, if only they grew as fast as regular rats

But then they would grow as big as regular rats too....

I'm looking to get rid of all of my Rats and just go with mice and ASFs.

I use to breed ASFs only, I only have a trio now for certain snakes. Once they become readily available to everyone and people aren't so scared to buy snakes eating ASFs I may reconsider.

I was wondering how they look when pregnant. :) I just started my colony. So far they seem happy, but I havent seen them "busy" yet. Maybe they like it dark when I go to sleep :P

An asf is a African Soft Furred rat. The same rats that are ball pythons native prey in africa. Ball pythons love them!!! They are great for really picky eaters or ones that have gone on a hunger strike.

oooooh... I thought they looked kinda like rats but they always seem to pretty much have the same coloring. Thanks for clearing that up for me :gj:

They almost look like a cross between a rat and a mouse.

I'll go take a picture of an asf next to a regular rat so you can see the difference. :D

There is a sticky in this forum section on ASFs sizes by mike, it's very good to get a size idea :)
