Which rack system?
I'm planning to get a rack in the near future, and have been researching them online... I've narrowed it down to a few options, and was hoping to get opinions from you all. Here's what I like so far in my price range, which is (hopefully) no more than $250 including shipping:
http://www.animalplastics.com/ This one: http://www.animalplastics.com/1754EP.htm
http://www.reptilebasics.com/Iris-Sh...s-p-16181.html (I contacted him about doing something custom-made)

I currently have 2 juvenile and one adult BP, and plan to add another hatchling and adult eventually. I live in a cool/dry climate, and need something that is REALLY good at maintaining the high temps & humidity. TIA for any advice! :gj:

Re: Which rack system?
I have some RBI racks that really work out great for me. I've heard nothing but good things about Animal Plastics racks as well though.....yup, no help I know;)

No, that actually was helpful! LOL... ;)

Re: Which rack system?
I've only used Reptile Basics racks so far, two of them, in the CB70 size. So long as you follow the directions (like not putting them on carpet - don't ask, LOL!) they're an absolutely _wonderful_ rack. Perhaps more importantly, Rich is a delight to work with!

Re: Which rack system?
Well, at least you've narrowed it down to AP or RBI... :D I'm leaning towards the RBI at this point, depending on what he says about a custom rack - since the pre-fab ones on his site are a little pricey. Thanks for the replies!

Oh, and my rack will be on a carpeted floor... so should I lay a slab of wood under it? I saw another thread asking about that, and somebody answered that it wasn't necessary.

Re: Which rack system?
I use RBI racks and don't plan on going any other route. I'm sure all the other racks out there are perfectly fine but Rich is just an awesome guy to work with and will do his best to accommodate whatever you need. I'll pay more for good quality, I'll pay more and keep coming back for great service. Just placed another order last Friday actually.
And there are a lot of options for make-shift pedestals. Target has wood cubes rated for 200 pounds each that work really well. If you ask, Rich can probably also fab something up for you for that as well (for a price of course).

You hadda ask, dint'cha?
I'd recommend it, especially if the carpet has a deeper pile. The carpet can push the bottom of the rack up so that the bottom tub can get pretty hard to slide - and even if you later move that rack to a hard floor, or even stack it atop another rack, the sliding difficulty can remain.
I've got a tub like that now.

Re: Which rack system?
I've had several different racks and even made my own. By far the best ones I've bought are the vision racks. They are super light. You can adjust the tension by tightening the bolts on top to make the tubs easy or harder to slide. And if you need to keep the rack in a colder room you can just hang insulation on the sides and back to help keep the heat in. The casters on the bottom are nice. I can wheel it around when cleaning.

Re: Which rack system?
I was unaware of the carpet issue, so if my advice was misleading on another thread about the issue I apologize.
I was under the impression the only reason to put wood underneath was to get it further away from the draft.

I have the RBI CB70 3-tub rack and use an old 17" high Cargo solid oak coffee table as a pedestal for my rack. It's sturdy, keeps the rack off the carpet, and temps in all 3 tubs remain fairly uniform, even in my bottom tub.
Added benefit: I don't have to bend down as far to check temps.
Good luck to you with your new rack.

We use vision racks, very happy with them too.

Re: Which rack system?
All my racks are RBI but Im switching over to another mfg. Being in Florida and a controlled room I dont need fully enclosed PVC so Im switching to combo metal/pvc racks.
After a lot of going back and forth I decided on Sentec Caging. All of their racks are made out of anodized aluminum and pvc. For the money you cant beat it, their racks are comparable to Vision but for me the added benefits of flexwatt back heat, pvc tops so no dust getting trapped in all the grooves, and of course price.
Eric has been great to work with and my racks are being shipped this week. If you have any custom ideas ask him, he will build you what you want!

Re: Which rack system?
My climate (in San Francisco) is about as different from Florida as it gets! ;) And my bedroom, where the snakes are currently living, is always freezing cold... so it's probably best for me to get an enclosed rack, no? Thanks for the suggestion, though, and I'll check out what they have.

Re: Which rack system?
Lolo...yes Reptile basics is the best option for your situation, just my 2 cents
Vision racks are these..http://www.visionproducts.us/htm7/racks.html

Re: Which rack system?
I was just looking at the vision racks, and they're awfully expensive. Do they do custom orders? I noticed the smallest/cheapest one is 10 high, and I would only need 5 maximum... thanks for the advice!

Re: Which rack system?
Btw... I heard back from the guy at RBI, and he said they're too busy to do custom racks right now. :(

Re: Which rack system?
I recently bought the ap rubermaid 2220 rack and I love it. It has flexwatt belly heat which is perfect as I live in CT where it is always cold. I think the 7 slot rack was 330 delivered. The only down side I had was that they were very busy and I took a while to get but to thier defense they had great customer service and would always let me know if they might miss an expected ship date.

Re: Which rack system?
I have two three tub AP 2223 Rubbermaid racks and have been very happy with them. Ali at AP is a pleasure to deal with and kept me well informed when they a bit late shipping my order.
