Odd dark Ball
This is a male ball at my work that everyone there has considered normal, but every time I see it, I just think there's no way this is possibly a normal ball python. He's a proven breeder and his offspring show the same dark features (along with a granitey pattern from the mother). He looks really cool, just want some opinions on possible morphs. In person, his hue reminds me of a camo, maybe it's a chocolate??? He's very dark, no yellow anywhere, and has a fairly reduced pattern.

Here is his belly.

I know these threads get old but the help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Odd dark Ball
I'd say that'd be a cool dinker project... There have been some subtle morphs proving to have some insane supers and combos!

Re: Odd dark Ball
I have one exactly like that that I am going to breed next year, same belly pattern, same lack of yellow, same everything pretty much. She will hopefully prove out next year and if so I will be happy. I am going to breed her with a normal male I have.

Re: Odd dark Ball
Sigh... looks like I can't avoid the ball pythons even if I try. I think my store is selling him, maybe they'll give me a deal on him and one of his offspring (who were bred to what looks to be a weak granite) :D

Re: Odd dark Ball
It was actually a really high quality camera so pretty far from photoshop. And I think I can still say the old favorite:"the pics don't do it justice" :)

Re: Odd dark Ball
He is what is called a "dark morph"
They come in from Africa every once and a while as c.h babies and w.c too.
Some lines are genetic, some are not, we sold my rat breeder a female dark morph het pied a few years ago from a line that proved co-dom/dom.
We also sold a dark morph co-dom banded male to a member here too that was from a line that proved out as well.
They are a very cool looking snake, that are quite variable. A ghost should make some crazy combo's with a dark morph... that contrast would be crazy!!
Its a nice snake, we pay $100 for them as babies in Africa so if you can get it for a decent price its a worth while animal, not many around, we have got in about 20 of them over the last 2-3 years and almost all of them are in a prive collection being worked with, so not many see the open market.
Good luck with him.

Re: Odd dark Ball
I say get him. a dinker project for sure. I usually don't go for the darker morphs, but his reduced pattern got my attention and the overall dark wash is interesting enough.

His offspring actually resemble sables....perhaps he is a type of hypermelanism?
Here are his (granitey, not proven I guess) babies, I think 2 years old now:
