Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
Hi
I'm planning to start breeding this next season. I have a normal female who's well above breeding weight, and [as of next week] a breeder spider male.
I was looking into getting a female breeder pastel, so I would have two clutches; norm x spider and spider x pastel, but now I'm considering going for ghost spiders instead of bees.
My questions:
1. (I'm sorry, I know Q's like this come up ALL the time) What would be the %s if I bred a spider to a visual ghost?
2. What would be the %s if I bred a spider to a DH ghost?
3. What are the prices of a ghost spider in comparison to a bee?
Thanks!

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
a spider to a ghost would be 50% spider het ghost 50% normal het ghost
I dont know much on DH's im not sure if theres such a thing as a DH ghost, wouldnt a DH have to be het ghost and something else?
as for the price, i have no clue, i havent seen any this year. Hopefully someone else has seen one and can help

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
Not sure of prices but the Honeybee (Spider Ghost) will cost more than a bee as it is a recessive/dominant gene combo. These take 2 generation to breed whereas bees can be produced first generation:gj:

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
Here in the UK, honeybees are about twice the price of bumblebees.
They are also much harder to come by.

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
So I would have to breed a spider het ghost to a ghost for a honeybee, right?
Thank you all!

Yes...You can also breed Spider 100% Het Hypo x 100% Het Hypo to produce a Honey Bee.

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
With a spider breeding a ghost, you should have half the babies come out spider het for ghost, and half the babies will be "just" het for ghost.
I'm not sure what you refer to as a DH ghost?
Honeybees are more expensive than bumblebees. They are pretty hot looking too! I've never seen a ugly honeybee!

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
same with me, honeybees are always amazing looking
i would think a spider het hypo would either be the same price or lower than a bumbee. some of the hets i see have outrageous price tags that you could afford the visual and make your own hets

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
Nerd was selling a Honeybee not too long ago for I believe 2250 but I am unsure of size and sex.
I almost picked up a Spider Het Hypo for my OG Male.
I <3 Honeybees!

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
What do you get if you cross two honeybees? A super honeybee? :P
Also, I keep getting mixed messages from various Classifieds areas; what is the average price for a female breeder pastel and a female breeder ghost?

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
hmmmm
I think you would get ghosts and honeybees, you should also get Homozygous Spider ghosts but you won't know which of these are homo without breeding them.

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
A female breeder pastel is generally around $1000 once they hit 1000g, and I would say the same if not a little more for the female breeder ghost.

You would not have homo spiders, because there isn't a general homo spider form.
Honeybee + honeybee should get you more honeybees, and maybe ghosts.. as far as I can figure.

a homo spider is said to be leathal before even being born.

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
I heard the same but following the Punnett Square you should get Homo spiders that carry the spider gene on both sides of the gene pair if you breed spider to spider. Maybe the eggs that don't hatch out these clutches are these homo spiders, maybe not.
There is no visible Super form of the Spider as it is a dominant gene.
From Honeybee to honeybee you would then get Ghosts and Honeybees. honeybees are homozygous ghosts (recessive) and when breeding homo-recessive to homo-recessive you would get all homo-recessive babies
Ah well, I'm learning about genetics so it may be my bad.....

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
a honeybee is a combo... spider x ghost

Correct, I was referring to the Ghost gene in the Honeybee as the post from Wolfy-Hound said that you'd maybe get ghosts....

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
yeah but in your post your talking about a homo ghost when ghost is recessive, sooo there isnt a homo ghost

Correct me if I'm wrong but a visible ghost is the homozygous form of the ghost recessive gene, with the heterozygous form being the het....:colbert:

Re: Ghost Spider - Quick Q's
What I would do:
If you are planning on getting a breedable female morph you are going to be spending some coin anyways, so why not get a pastel ghost. Everything you produce year one will be 100% het ghost. Holdback a male bee het ghost and breed him back to the pastel ghost and you will get both honeybees and the coveted humblebees year 2.
You could also get a pastel het ghost for a little less, but you won't be sure what you are working with year 2 because they will all be 50%hets. That is the dilema I am facing right now. I have a male bee that is 50%het ghost and have to invest in a ghost just to prove him out.
