Another BEL snake that most forget
Well let me start off by saying these snakes belong to Bryce Honstead of The Reptile Image and the photos were taken by him. I have his permission to post these photos as well.
This first picture is of a Mocha, Amir was the one to prove that a Mocha to Mocha pairing got you a BEL and he named it the Latte. This first picture is of a 09 hatchling Mocha that was produced by Bryce Honstead.

and this is a photo of the whole clutch which was 2.1 Latte/Lesser BEL and .1 Mocha

This was just to show one of the lesser used combo's to make a BEL

I never heard of such a thing- way cool!

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
Nice! What is it that differentiates the Mocha from a normal and obviously its in the BEL complex, but does a mocha x mocha make a BEL or is it like the Phantom?

A Mocha to Mocha Pairing will yield a BEL that Amir calls a Latte

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
They make a really nice BEL. Nobody ever brings up the Mocha when it comes to BEL's.
-
Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
That's incredible. I didn't realize that the mochas looked so very normal. Are there any distinguishing characteristics? The Leucistics look great.

I'm not sure Mark I don't have any to study but I will ask Bryce

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
do u have a pic of a older mocha wondering if they look like normals or the same
-
Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
I never bring up mochas because I've never heard of them before!!!
Jeezus it always baffles me the number of apparently visually different morphs out there in the BEL complex.. It's like there's some genetic disposition towards mutation of that specific gene.. but in different ways.
since we're on topic.. what ARE all the known BEL complex morphs?
mojo
lesser
butter
RDR phantom
mocha
special
I'm tired and have at least one more on the tip of my tongue but my nighttime drugs are kicking in.

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
also the het Russo but I think thats all for now

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
yes thats the one i was thinking of, thanks!
I think the mocha reminds me more of the russo than any of the other het BELs out there.

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
so what makes a mocha different then a normal aside from what they create?
-
Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
Here is a Latte/ Super Mocha, the photo is the property of Amir.
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/i...SuperMocha.jpg
and to the above poster I have never seen a Mocha in person I believe that the Mocha has a nice clean look to them but as with a few other White snake makers they look more normal than a Mojo or Lesser

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
do they ever put them up for sale? Whats the going rate for a mocha(either gender) if you know
-
Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
does anyone have a pic of a mocha against a normal? What's the distinguishing feature?
-
Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
Tim, it would be cool if you could see if Bryce would be willing to come here and explain a little more about the mocha. What makes a mocha a mocha (ie, I don't think I could pick it from a normal)? And any other questions people might have?
I know that you've piqued my interest in this project, and I'd never heard of it before either. Would love to hear more about it!

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
Well the person to shed the best light on the Mocha gene is gonna be the first producer Amir Soleymani of Yellowbellyball.com. From the looks of it he doesn't even go on his own forums on that site. As far as the defining markers I don't know much either, but I will ask Bryce to provide me with a bit of info for you guys. If you put "Who produced the mocha ball python" into the google bar the first link is to a image event page that has quiet a few photos of the Mocha and of the Super Mocha's/Latte's as babies.

Guys I was wrong the BEL that are pictures are from a Latte/Super Mocha bred to a Lesser. Bryce said he would sign up to answer some of your questions

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
The mocha x lesser BELs are nice.

The mystic is also a BEL complex snake.

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
I have seen Amir's Super Mochas in person but never realized they were compatable with the Lesser/Butter gene? Very cool:gj:

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
The mocha looks like my dinker female. Maybe I'll be adding another line to the BEL complex list in a couple of years.

Re: Another BEL snake that most forget
Hello,
I guess I have been MIA in Mia.
The Mocha was first brought in as a fancy female by Noah back in the 90s.
I got the snake and produced visual animals from the original female.
I bred the animals together and produced Lattes which are the BELs.
I originally saw the similarities to a lesser on the import female from her clear belly and side markings.
A few people saw her and rolled their eyes but she is what she is which is another line of het Lucys that is compatible with Russo, Lesser, Butter and Mojave.
There is a great picture of the first four Lattes produced in the back cover of the Barkers Ball Python book.
As for combos, there are Mocha Yellowbellys and Mocha Ivorys and others in the works in the incubator.
Hope this sheds some light on the matter and I will be a bit more visible in the next few months.
Amir

Thank you Amir glad I wasn't to far off on the issue
