    Your Colony Number Set Up???
I just wanted to hear what colony numbers work well for others. Right now I have found that a 1.3 works very well for me. What works well for you? Thanks for the reply. Have a Great 4th of July.:salute:

1.2 and 1.3 , will be feeding off the 1.2 and replacing with a 1.3 to get more producion, also because they seem to turn their food to dust a lot more than the other group

A big thank you to all whom have replied. I just wanted to see if anyone had something that was working super well. I'm trying to keep 10 snakes well fed and I fear that my 4 tub rack just may fall short. Only time will tell. Big Shout Out to Snake Doc for helping me get started on this adventure. Thank You.:gj:

Re: Your Colony Number Set Up???
you could do 1.3 groups in 2 or 3 tubs and have one grow out tub
or fill the rack with breeders and have a couple totes for grow ups

Right now I have 3 tubs set up as 1.3 and I am feeding from the wean/grow tub. Today I added a 1.2 in a 10gal setting on top of the rack. But I like the way you think. A seperate area for use as a grow tub. THANKS

Re: Your Colony Number Set Up???
yeah its easy to just put the tub right next to the tub in the rack and transfer them instead of taking the tub out and they bounce all over and some escape

I've got 1.3 over here and there doing well but I've heard that 1.2 do a good job to, so now I'm trying a 1.2 group out.

I use 10 gallon tanks for my breeders. 1.2 groups have by far the best production.

Re: Your Colony Number Set Up???
I have a 1.4 and 1.3 mostly because I went from three breeding groups to two and wanted to still have decent production. Now I only have three tanks to keep watch of, which is nice.

I've haven't noticed any fighting in my grow up tank (which has weaners all the way to adults) but it does look like some of the females may be pregnant. I haven't been feeding those just in case. Is this likely or are they just getting well fed?

Oh yeah, another food question: I just toss scoops in to the tubs and when I've cleaned or taken a look around underneath the substrate I've noticed a ton of food laying down there. Do the rats know its there and are they able to get at it? Or is it basically lost? Substrate is kiln dried pine only 1.5-2in thick, feeding hog feed mixed with some bird seed which is mostly millet and sunflower seeds and all that.

Yes, if you havent separated the weaners, the females will get pregnant.... If you're wasting food, think about making a hopper, or control their portions.

I have 5 different cages with asfs. They are all 1.4 and work really well. Then I have 2 different cages for growing. Which are separated as males and females.

Re: Your Colony Number Set Up???
I believe out of all that I have the 1.4 pairing works best/fastest. I've got several males that I hang on to because the tend to breed to the females as soon as she drops babies. Then again you could end up with a male like the one I've got call "ole Faithful" I dropped him in with 12 females in a 30gal tank and all except 2 came out pregos! He's one I put with females that seem like they have a hard time getting pregnant. He's a hump'n blind man now...he's got very visible cataracts yet will breed no matter what!:hump:

Re: Your Colony Number Set Up???
Ok this is what I have set up and it works great!

I have 6 90qt tubs with 1.2 groups in 3 of them and the other three tubs are for grow outs.

If you get to many breeders in a small space, or more then one male, they will have a higher tendency to turn psycho and frag the whole friggen tub.

There is a weird smell that comes with those tubs that frag out.

I have a thread dedicated to how I set up my tubs, alot like Connies.

http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...highlight=Hoax Here is the link to my tubs.

Re: Your Colony Number Set Up???
I actually do not seperate my colony at all. once every month I add in new males and females from a friends colony, we trade out he has 7 going at the moment, that is to prevent over inbreeding. Other than that I have no grow out tub or anything else at them moment I have 15.45 in my rack total in 3 different tubs but that is only because I just fed today. I average 3 litters a week per a tub when they are full and running. I started my entire stock with only 3 females that were pregnant. From there I grew the babies up in the tub with mom, each mom had a different tub and were from dofferent colony, I then swapped all babies after they were weaned to a tub with a different female. The females would get pregnant by the only male I left in the group, after those babies would wean out I would move them do yet a different tub and let the colony in each grow. That worked perfect for me. Now like I said once a month I trade a friend for a new female for each tub and my groups are doing great.
