    How the...
How the heck do people own full grown retics?

Im not trying to start anything negative, im just really wondering because it seems like so many people own young retics now days, they're all over youtube and what not.

Like...I would LOVE to own a retic but how would I house it as an adult? (still dont plan on it)

Wouldnt it require a zoo style enclosure? like something huge?

A retic just seems like too much snake for alot of people that I see owning them. I mean...as far as paying for an enclosure goes. I just picture a retic needing a room for itself! lol

    enlighten me please!

Well I have a 7 1/2' male, so obviously a "zoo style enclosure" I do not own. LOL

I think males would be fine in an 6' cage.

I have seen females in 8' cages, and they did not seem cramped at all.

that kinda goes back to the BHB thread about to small of cages. if you were to give a retic a whole room it would probably curl up in a corner and not move till feeding time

You make a dedication to properly housing the snake. Like my large monitors, you have to be willing to make or buy a large enclosure, and be ready to clean a lot, and feed a lot.

Whether you believe it needs a room, or just a really large cage(8ft), it's still a huge space and a large undertaking. Takes a lot of dedication to house and care for some of the large reptiles, and a special person to do it properly just out of love for the animal.

I actually beleive if you gave a retic a large room it would use it to the fullest. My retics are often moving about there cages both are housed in 6 foot vision cages and both are around 9-10 feet. I have seen three retics housed in zoo type enclsoures at alligator adventure and all three were moving around and climbing the trees they had. Also the zoo in atlanta has a large retic that is always up in her tree or moving around. Retics are alot more active then most other large snakes. My burmese pythons NEVER move its almost like having a pet rock that you have to feed a rabbit to. BUt the cage size is completly up to the owner I know everyone can not afford a room size enclosure and as much as I would love to give mine one I just dont have that much room and with so many snakes it would take so long to properly clean it. I think 6 feet for males and 8 feet for large females works great and if ytou want to give them bigger space Im all for it because I believe they would use it to the fullest. Retics are amazing animals to own and so much different then most other large constrictors out there.

If I had a retic I would still give it the option to crawl around if it wanted. But thats just my style.

    Thanks for the replys!
