Where do you order your rodents from?
Just curious. Now that both of my snakes are on f/t, I'm going to start ordering online.
*You can choose more than one option if you don't always order from the same place.*
Please comment as to why you like a specific site; diversity of feeders, price, bulk, location?

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I just find local rat breeders and go there. There's one guy out here that is awesome! Breeds mice, rats and ASFs so I go and pick by size. I pay .75 each and I get a wide spectrum of sizes, from pups to Adult ASFs. I dont buy rats bigger than small though, as I find that even my biggest girls prefer smaller prey.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
i raise my own rats and asfs and then freeze
ive heard very good things about big cheese though, if i were to buy frozen then i would be going there first

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
Do you have to call / email Big Cheese for your order? I didn't see any order forms on the site.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I chose other, since I order my rodents from Rocky Mountain Rodent Company. :) The owner is the sweetest woman, her prices are awesome, and the rodents are in top condition. What's better, I save on shipping since she's based near enough to send my orders Ground and still have them get here the next day. :D

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I have bought frozen rats from two different places, Rodent Pro and American Rodent Supply.
Rodent Pro has a table at the All Ohio Reptile Show and I bought rats from them one time. I was very unhappy with the quality of the rats, they were all covered in urine and feces. Another thing I was disappointed in is the fact that their prices at the show are much higher than the listed prices online.
When it came time to get more rats I decided to order from American Rodent Supply and I was VERY happy with with them. I placed my order on a Saturday night, the order shipped on Monday and I had my rats on Tuesday. They came in a large box, very well packed with three blocks of dry ice. The small rats were vacuum sealed while the large rats were in Ziploc bags. The rats themselves were all very clean.
American Rodent Supply is more expensive than Rodent Pro's online prices but the quality of the rats more than make up for it, plus they offer free shipping to many states.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I go to a local place that has a good rate, something like 75 cents a mouse.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
Rodent Pro, I wait till they're on sale and then call em up and order a ton of em!
I have them deliver them to our local bi-monthly reptile show so I save on shipping:D

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I get mine from Rodent Pro but I don't order online, My order is placed with the Toledo Herpetological Society and picked up at the Columbus Show, No shipping charge and we get the bulk pricing.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I used to use a local breeder, but they moved, so now I order from Big Cheese. Overall a good experience, my rodents were clean and well packaged, and still rock hard upon delivery.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I breed my own rats and mice. Before that I was just getting my mice\rats at the local Petco. I'll bet the girls there miss my Tuesday evening routine.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
i'm currently getting mine through the local pet shop, which charges me $0.75 per pinky :rage: but its the cheapest place. i'm going to be ordering from Big Cheese here soon though, because everyone i've talked to has highly recommended them. i'm hoping their shipping will be a bit cheaper since they can ship via greyhound or airline.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I get mine from local reptile shops, mostly because it's an excuse to go window-shopping, and I only have one snake to feed so increased cost isn't breaking the bank or anything.

that is why i haven't ordered online. i only have one snake, and i've read not to keep f/t longer than 6 months. so i can only order 50 at a time and after shipping at most places i've looked its more than i'm paying at the petstore. plus i like to window shop when i'm there. :D

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I chose 'other' as I order from www.themousefactory.com I used rodentpro a few times, they were OK for a while but then the quality went down-hill pretty fast it seemed. Broken bits and pieces and filthy rats just isn't my thing so I tried TMF and couldn't be happier. They are clean and all in one piece and packaged very well.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I am another pet shop frozen rodent purchaser, only having one snake, although I do have some input.
We have two different stores that supply frozen rodents locally, one is a small based chain and the other is Petsmart.
The small based chain carries "San Francisco Bay Natural Frozen Mice",
(just like these on Drs. Foster and Smith http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...1&pcatid=18461) now, you only get four sizes, pinkies, fuzzies, hoppers, and adults and I have found the quality a little less than satisfactory, upon defrosting the smell horrid, even through the plastic bagging, there is some urine and fecal matter, but my biggest concern is the amount of rodents that have nasal discharge, which is a sign of viral infections in the rodent. I do not know if this could pass on to a snake but it does make a sicker food item.
Now the other place that sells frozen rodents is Petsmart. For one I wouldn't buy a snake from Petsmart due to some care, (actually heard a worker say she feeds the BPs frozen pinkies, right out of the package without defrosting) But actually the sell Arctic Mice by T-Rex and found the quality to be very nice. A bit expensive yes, but over time its not too bad, with only one mouth to feed. Their quality is what really sold it for me, no bad smells or fecal matter, very clean healthy looking rodents. Plus, they come in more sizes, Pinkies, Fuzzies, Small (Hoppers essentially), Medium and Large; plus my store just started carrying small frozen rats, which will be nice down the road. Again, a bit more expensive, but you get nice quality in a small quantity.
Just my experiences.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
RodentPro! Why, because they are local and I can just pick them up.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I used Rodentpro...then didn't - was just going to Petsmart. Went back to Rodentpro when Petsmart stopped carrying any other size mouse besides hoppers and so had to go to several places just to find mice. I have to admit, Rodentpro is convenient and honestly even just ordering for one snake is cheaper than Petsmart, but the mice are sometimes dirty which I find kind of gross.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
i raise and freeze my own.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I support my local economy as much as I can. I buy from a local shop.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
i wish i could order online. my girl wont eat nothng she didnt kill. ive tried every method to get her to eat pre killed but she will give me a look like... come on guy are you serious. now she will go next to it... and look at it then when she is done looking at it will turn back and look at you like... come on guy, you cant be for real with this. she is so picky that i can only buy my feeders from one place, and i have three in town. i mean there is a obvious scent difference that i notice as well. but hey, i say pickle you say cucumber. wait wut

-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I get em from rodent pro locally at shows. I dont order online. If I did it would cost alot more, but it would still be less then going to petsmart/co

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
The Mouse Factory is the best IMHO...Ray and Edna offer great rats and customer service...
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?

-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I recently hooked up with local so cal guy that delivers to your home; 0.55 cents, any size, from pinky to retired breeder if he has them. He supplies pet stores and breeders that have decent size orders.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I get mine from LLLreptile. They're vacuum-packed and always clean, though they're pretty expensive.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
Use rodent pro and never had a problem. However I am going to start just buying from local shows. Cheaper and no shipping. Plus lots of selection. You just have to get there early or all the good sizes will be gone.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
Although I would never buy my snakes from Pet Smart, T-Rex mice and rats are top notch.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
Oops arctic mice just checked my freezer and got the name wrong in my last post sorry.
-
Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I buy mine locally from Norm and Diane at Dino Reptiles here in the Ottawa area in eastern Ontario.

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I recently began ordering from Gourmet Rodent... At first I was wary because my local PetCo sells f/t from Gourmet Rodent, and I've had allll kinds of bad experiences with that. But I correctly assumed that it was PetCo's fault (either by thawing and refreezing or by keeping them around for way too long). The G.M. even gave me a big discount because of all the nasty ones I had bought at Petco (which wasn't even their fault). The order I received looks great and are all being eaten by the snakes. :)

Re: Where do you order your rodents from?
I placed my first order online with rodentpro.com recently and their customer service was fantastic! I will never order from anywhere else! They even let me do a custom order, they have set amounts that you have to order, minimums, things like that, but they did my order even though it was a little different! It was packed amazing, wish I had taken a picture. All mice and rats I've gotten elsewhere have had feces, blood, substrate stuck to them but rodentpro's stuff has been clean and perfect! :)

Really? Did you email them for a custom order? I'd order more regularly from Rodent Pro if I could get fuzzy mice in packages of less than 100. Earlier this year I tried ordering from them. Everything went well, but with most of my snakes eating big rats, mice in bulk isn't convenient for me, as there's no way my one little rssb can get through 100 fuzzy mice in under a year.

I emailed them yes! I also explained how it wasn't convenient for me to order in large bulk like that and they said it was just fine. I had the same thought, how is my little corn snake going to eat all those pinkie mice? He would have outgrown them before he could eat all 100! So I just explained that and everything worked out :)

I live in PA, and no breeder is close to me... So I rack up at or reptile expo in hamburg, PA... Good prices and I don't have to pay shipping..
-
I ordered rodent pro... All the mice and rats were dirty. So far all of our snakes have refused them... Weird.
They do have good customer service though.
-
I breed my own mice, rats and ASF and enjoy it. So far I am keeping up with our 4 snakes and my sister's 2 with extras.

Bpherps, i saw on your website that u sell live mice in southern cali. was wondering if you sell f/t mice and rats. i sent you a msg via your website if you could also reply via this forum, that would be great. looking fwd on doing business w/u. thanks.

I live in PA and seems to be a shortage of reptile stores around here.
My wife breeds rats for my snakes. It may not be cost effective at the moment since i only have 3 snakes, but at least i know that the rats are good quality food for my snakes.
When i dont have any though, i drive 45 minutes one way to chambersburg to a local pet shop there, or i pick some up at the Hamburg Expo.

Rodent supplier
I order from ARS. I have never had any problems until my last shipment. The small rats that I ordered were rat weans instead. I will still continue to use them as I believe this was an honest mistake. Brian has always treated me great and everything is nice and fresh. It's also about 45 min from my house, and the free shipping for orders over 100 doesn't hurt either.:)
