    My New Ball Python Website
    Hi all:D

I've just setup a small ball python website here in South Africa. Check it out at www.ballpythonssa.co.za

There is a growing market here in South Africa for ball pythons and only 2 other local sites exist. I've tried to cover as much as I can in the site but it is a work in progress with updates planned, so if it looks like a section is not complete then it ain't at the moment.

Anyways, I'd consider it a blessing if you'd pop over and have a look, and any constructive feedback would be appreciated. Particularly the genetics page, I'm not a pro on genetics and have tried to make it as easy to understand as possible.

I have taken a couple of pics from other sites of morphs that I don't yet have. I have contacted these sites to check if they are happy for me to borrow their images, so far I have been given the ok, I'm just waiting on a few more to get back to me. If they come back saying no then I may ask if some of you are willing to let me use a picture of yours.

    Thanks in advance:gj:

    Thanks Woohoo:gj:

So far I have received positive feedback from our local herp community here in SA. They have all said we need a decent local site for balls, so fingers crossed it grows from here, but it is still early days....

    Thanks again....

Great site! It has a really nice layout :)

One suggestion on the genetiics page is that you could make it a little more clear that a gene must have a super form to be a co-dom otherwise it is just dom. I think you might be able to figure it out, but I think you should plain out mention it

Kudos to you for knowing that what most people call co-dom in the bp world is really incomplete dom :)

    Great site over all!!!

But what are your goals? do you plan on selling snakes I seee that you have an available section. if so you need to develope a terms and conditions page even though you dont have anything available right now. The information is great and although i havent read it all seems on point.

    Thanks for the replies all

@hock3ymonk3y - I'm just working on detailing dominant genes, thanks for the comments on that. I think I'm right if I detail Supers as dominant, I realised this last night when I did some more research on the matter, I'll be sure to update the genetics section to show this.:gj:

@aff. Ball Pythons are a hobby at the moment. My goals are to provide information on these animals for our local community and when I start breeding I will be selling any offspring that won't fit into my breeding projects. I also intend selling equipment (tanks, heat pads etc). I also want to start building a web presence now, some may say that having a site that is not selling anything for at least another 18 months is a bit premature, I say it is never to early to start:D Terms and conditions of sale are a work in progress at the moment, I'm also working on a privacy statement for when I collate site vistors info for mailouts etc. I'm just researching what I need to detail, any ideas would be appreciated.

Glad you like site so far y'all, your comments are appreciated

    Hi All

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any additions to my site? Something interactive that will keep people returning.

I'm planning on adding a ball hospital page where we will discuss common ailments, site visitors will be able to email me their queries which I will pass on to a top herp vet here in SA. I'll then post possible courses of action (with a disclaimer of course!)

I'll also look at adding applications like snake measurer and genetics wizard etc, what other useful tools can you recommend?

Thanks for the feedback so far:gj:

Can someone please confirm if we can refer to the super of a co-dom gene, eg, super mojave, as a dominant gene?

    Thanks

    I don't think you can.

The gene is still co-cominant (or incomplete dominant in real genetic speak ).

Whether the animal in question is homozygous or heterozygous does not change the nature of the gene at all.

    Hey all

I've added some updates to the site, I've now included a Ball Emergency Room to help with sick balls (50% complete). You can also download snake measurer and also a record chart to chart feeding pooping shedding etc....

Thanks for the input so far :gj:

Excellent job with the site, there are many BP sites in the US that are nowhere near as good as what you've done, so i would say herpers in SA are quite fortunate that you've done all this work. And so are we because we have the link now! :gj:

Wow, thanks for the comments. I was just wanting to put together a decent site to help our local community and was not expecting it to compare to what you guys are doing in the States. Pity we are about 5 - 10 years behind you guys when it comes to balls. You won't see Panda Pieds, Axanthic Pieds, Spinner Blasts etc for a long time yet, just humble base morphs and some older designer morphs.... ah well, we all gotta start somewhere :gj:

They do and it is something that I'll look at doing in the future... problems are the costs involved and also getting the necessary permits here in South Africa.

Realise that government departments here are nowhere near as efficient as those in 1st world countries. I could quite easily spend $5000 on balls and permits etc just to have the guy at Customs here send it all back because he woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day. Sometimes they will make your life difficult just because they can:taz:

I'm receiving 2 adult female normals that were imported by another breeder here in SA that were imported from the US. This breeder bought these animals in January 2008 and it has taken 18 months for them to land here in South Africa.

The beaurocracy here is unbelieveable, red tape abounds to make sure that there are jobs for all the boys and girls in government:rolleye2:
