It seems to be simple recessive although there are still some unanswered questions lingering.

It isn't a secret, aside from the fact that the genetics aren't completely understood as of yet. You can see the origin of the project here.

Thats really cool! It kinda just seems like he got two good looking snakes that he found and bred them together proving them to be genetic. Seems like he got really lucky with the goldfinger thing but it is pretty awesome.
