Selling my first clutch need help.
Well I will have my first clutch hatching in the next week. I was wondering since the price of spiders has dropped so low should I being new to the scene go a little lower then the norm, or should I stick with the average price of the market and hope someone puts their faith in me and buys my animals. Thanks guys. Just not really sure how to go about it. Thanks again.

Re: Selling my first clutch need help.
If you sell for a lower price than the normal price of Spiders, you may have more people who would want to purchase them. If you do want to stick with the normal price, but still don't want to charge a whole lot, try selling the snakes for the lowest you can sell a Spider. Either way, you may have more people who would want to purchase them.

Go with the norm. As long as you don't have debt collectors breathing down your neck, might as well wait for someone who's looking for a quality snake rather than a cheap deal.

Re: Selling my first clutch need help.
I'd go with an average price. Snakes are like cars, they sell them selves. Just keep them healthy and concentrate on customer satisfaction.
PS: Every body likes spiders!

It's hard to raise your prices, I know only because, like many things, I've done it to see what would happen.
You can always lower them.
I'd start out asking what you'd like to get and take it from there. Being unknown is not in and of itself a drawback, especially when you can provide references for your stock, care, and general goodguyness.
I'd vouch for you, though that is a two edged sword if ever I've seen one, but I am sure others of a more genial nature would as well.

That is so true! Hopefully I get one when the reptile expo near me comes up!

Re: Selling my first clutch need help.
I would say it's hard to tell until they hatch and you see the Quality of the babies. You may have a super smokin spider that would go for an above average price. I don't think you should have to dump prices just because you are unknown. I believe quality animals will sell regardless of pricing as long as it's reasonable.
Oh, and after reading it....what Wes said;)

Re: Selling my first clutch need help.
Thanks guys I just didn't want to try and sell them for the norm 250-300 or whatever they are going for now and sit on them forever but I guess the unknown thing doesn matter as much as I thought. Come to think of it, most of my purchases were through unknowns and my only larger name breeder purchase ended up no soo great. I got the wrong animal lol. I will just let it ride and see what happens. THanks again. :gj::gj:

Another thing is that if you do sit on them for awhile their value goes up as they gain more weight. Something to consider. Prices will always drop with each generation but no need to hasten the decline.

Re: Selling my first clutch need help.
If you breed quality, and you have healthy babies, there's no reason you should need to drop your prices, just because this is your first year. You've made contacts and relationships just being here and participating on the forum.
Don't expect them to go flying off the proverbial shelf right away, but be patient. The right buyer will come along. Don't short sell yourself or your babies.
I can tell you right now, my lemon pastel babies will be about $100 more than market. Why? Because my lemons aren't average quality pastels. If I have to sit on them a little longer, so be it. I've already had insane offers for my founding male and my holdback girl, so I'm not too concerned.
Be proud of the animals you produced and don't undersell yourself!

And she has a waiting list..I know I've been on it for 2 years now.. :gj::gj:
And trust me her pastels are worth every nickle of the 250.00 - 300.00 you'll pay for them.

Re: Selling my first clutch need help.
You said you do not have a reputation. Please be aware that this first sale will begin to build on the rep you already have with us here at BP.net. If you sell cheap just to make a sale, or if you set your prices based on quality and then market the animals. Each direction will say something about you to others. It paints a picture of you to the world. So, what kind of picture do you want to paint, cheap, or quality worth having? You choose.

I have to disagree with your wording here.
If he chooses to sell INEXPENSIVELY that does not equate to cheapness.
I've sold stuff at far below market when I needed the money or just had too many to deal with. I have never sold anything of substandard quality.
How his animals do will say more than his prices.
