Anyone else's do this?

So Naga, our 3'9" female BP, likes to be alone when she eats I've discovered. I wanted to see how she goes about the process, so I set up a camera to record and walked away after leaving a f/t rat in the tub.
She investigated the rat for a good six minutes before eating it. She didn't even coil or anything. She just found the head and starting working her way down it.
Does anyone else's not even bother coiling up...?

and i don't know how long you have been feeding f/t but my guess would be a fair bit of time.

Why would you constrict something if you don't need to?

time after time of feeding im sure your snake just realized there is no point in constricting.

I have a snake who doesn't coil around the f/t food items, but my Ball pythons seem to do it, as well as my King snakes. I don't think you should worry too much about it, at least she's eating.

I wonder why our younger one still constricts his dead prey then? Maybe he'll stop eventually as he grows up because he'll also realize it's dead already? >.<

We were told Naga was on live rats, but when we tried live she didn't bother trying to strike them. I leave a f/t in there and ta-daaa! This is only the second meal she's had with us.

Some constrict, some don't. It can depend on the presentation too. Ever tried the zombie dance?

That's not quite right. Out of my 5, one does this, my little mojave. He's a picky eater. Only eats about every second feeding or so. If I fed live, he would get bitten for sure, I have to drop it in and leave it there and I have to be about 10 ft away before he will even think about it.

You should also attempt the "zombie dance.. I put a towel over half of her aquarium and stand behind that.. Even still, as soon as I put it in the top, she grabs it right away.. I also wiggle the prey a bit while she's constricting it as well to give the feel that it's alive.

Just my opinion.

Mine will strike f/t but not constrict. He will strike and contrict if I feed live though. He may be able to tell live from dead but he still isn't the sharpest stick in the bunch. He tries to eat sideways sometimes, others from the rear or head. I've even seen him try to start with a leg and chew on it a bit.

Sorry, this was about my female normal I have if it seemed confusing. All of my other snakes are in tubs.. and the only one so far that doesn't strike and constrict is the baby female.

Without doubt my super pastel will strike and coil his FT mice. I definately have some tongs that I use and "zombie dance" it in front of his hut, where is patiently waiting for "zombies" to walk by. Maybe he thinks he's some zombie killer trying to save the world? I dunno, but he certainly has no idea they are already dead.

Haha, tried the zombie dancing, but she doesn't take any interest if I do that, she just stays in her hide. When I tried live before, she took interest, checked it out, but never struck. That's when I tried just leaving a f/t in there.
Took us long enough, but we figured out what she prefers and how she prefers it. >.<
Our little Dahaka just strikes and coils no matter what. Sometimes he surprises the crap outta me 'cause he strikes right from inside his hide without even poking his head out. :O

Hvae you tried pre scenting? Leave the open bag with mouse contents near the enclosure and leave the room for 30 minutes. It usually gets the snake into feeding mode.

I wish I knew what my BP did.. but she hasn't eaten for me yet... However my King doesn't coil on 1/2 the mice he gets LOL

Only one of mine (Toby) has eaten F/T thus far, and he doesn't strike or constrict them either. He just slithers up to the dead prey, looks at it for a second, and then gulps it down slowly. He usually eats live, since that's what my others get, and will strike/constrict with those - so I guess they do know the difference between dead & living food! ;)

My new girl doesn't like being watched either, as her breeder told me when I got her... but we stayed in the room at her last feeding, just out of sight, and she went for it after a few. I did cover the tank halfway with a light cloth (old curtain), which seemed to help her feel more secure. :snake:
