Can't Wait......!!!!!!

My boyfriend talked to the breeder that he got his two ladies from three years ago..... and she has a female spider that was hatched on June 19th..... We are waiting fot the litle girl to finish absorbing the yolk and then once she gets a few meals in her...... she will be coming home! I am getting a girlfriend for my male normal Rios that was hatched a few months ago...... So in a few years, I may be having little spiders.......:banana:

Thanks... I can not wait!... As of yet all has gone well with her, and she is healthy. The breeder is a good one, and will not let a baby go that is not healthy and eating....... Man and to think when I started on the snake train, I thought that i was going to just get my two Garters,... now I have two garters, one BP and another one on the way, with the possibilty of babies in a few year..... whew... Yep, I am addicted....:)

Oh yeah... quick question.... I have looked around on the stickies and have not found the answer...... How long does it take for the baby to absorb the yolk? What happens to the unbilical cord? Ect?/? I am lokoing for all info on the baby when they are that young. By the time I get the snake it is past that stage, and I am wondering what all happens at that time, especially since in a few years I plan on breeding Rios and the new little one.....

It can take a few days up to a week to absorb the yolk and come out of the egg. The umbilicus falls off when they emerge from the egg (although some will have a little tiny bit still attached that usually falls off by the first shed). First shed generally is one week after emerging from the egg. First feed is offered a week after first shed.

Ok..... I just got a pic sent to us on the little girl that will be coming home as soon as she has gotten a few meals in her.......

God I love Spiders! They are so beautiful. A Spider is definitely my next BP!

I want a pied somewhere down the road.... but after seeing a pic of her... Man I am so excited for her to come home.... Come on baby girl....continue to be healthy and eat those meals already.....

I have to agree, Spiders are beautiful!! Looks like you have a gorgeous one there. We have one that we bought as a baby and she was shipped overnight to us from Texas to Indiana. To say in the least, she wasn't in the happiest of moods when she got here. My hubby stayed home to get her from Fed Ex and immediately took her out of the shipping container to hold her. Duh. She struck at him twice!! When he told me I was dying laughing at him and he didn't know why. I pointed out that if he was stuck in a tiny container and tossed around for a few thousand miles, he'd strike at the first thing that touched him too. He knows now to leave em be for a few days. She has the most personality out of all our snakes. I'm hoping to breed her next year.

uhm.... yeah. I would have stiked too. I will personally pick her up from the breeder though,... so it should be a less stress move for her. Hope that your breeding project goes the best for you next year.... I all ready havea boyfriend for my little girl..She will be paired with the Normal male that I bought a couple months ago,... that is also a 09 baby. That will give them a couple of years to get to know each other...lol

I haven't seen anyone else comment on this yet, but it kind of concerns me. I guess it could be confusion on someones part, but did the breeder twll you that it needed to finish "absorbing" yolk? I only ask, because I would love to know who would sex a snake before it absorbs yolk. You said you were buying a female, but it wasn't done absorbing yolk yet.

my boyfriend was the one talking to the breeder.... and he is still some what new... He has two ladies that he got from her that are three years old, and then he has past experience with larger snakes... but that was awhile ago... I think that she was explaining the process to him about it all and he mixed it all up. ... and I was too excited to hear that there is a little girl waiting for me to correct him. As you can see from just a little bit farther up the thread... she is a beautiful girl... and that is before she shed....I am so eagerly awaiting the arrival of her....

Quick update.... Just got an email this morning... She ate her first meal last nght!!!!!

The photo appears to be post-shed. They look like they're plastic-wrapped before the first shed.

Perhaps the breeder simply meant that the baby was living off of absorbed egg yolk, and until its store of yolk was used up, it would not be interested in eating. This is usually between 3 days and 1 week after the first shed.

Very possibly.. my boyfriend had no clue that they absorbed the yolk.. or that they have a belly button.... so he was a bit taken back by the whole thing.... I really am not too concerned about that .... I am just so very excited for her to come home after a couple more meals...

Ok.... so we just got an update.... the little girl has gotten five meals in her and took a F/T mouse!!! so she is healthy and ready to come home.... Looks like we will be able to pick her up this weekend!
