I'm surprised that there isn' a Hunter's Guide to Fires. Fires won't have the speckled pattern around the belly like YBs, so that's a distinct difference right there. I'll let someone who owns Fires give you information about them, though.

Re: Fire vs YB question
To my eye, Fires don't resemble yellow bellies very much at all. They are much lighter in color, lack the distinct YB belly flecking, and overall just have a totally different "look".... http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/data/...0_0661-med.jpg
Can you show me a bellyshot of them?
They look really simular to each other.

Re: Fire vs YB question
So what would you say that this is? I was stupid enough to breed a yb and a fire (and a spider but that wasn't so stupid :) ) to a some normal females.
Some of the babies is in shed but here's a couple of pics.
I was speakig with Baileys Reptiles and I believe th Sulfur has been proven to be the same mutation as the fire. It's just another line of the fires :) FYI

Re: Fire vs YB question
2 and 5 are Fires and 4 is a Y.B. -- The rest look normal in my opinion. The head-spot is the LAST marker I look at when identifying Fires -- least reliable.
The belly is the first thing I look at -- even before color. Belly should clear with solid lines/streaks (NOT SPECKLED as on a Y.B.) running along major portions of the back 2/3 of the body.
Color is SO variable depending on line, color of Fire in breeding, and other animal in breeding. I consider the color of course, but the BELLY is the ticket for Fire I.D. Good luck!!
