Addicted!!!!!
Ive been gaining alot of weight the past few months and I dont eat a whole lot but its because I drink ALOT of soda. I am completly addicted to mountain dew and will literally drink about 2-3 cases a day. I was wondering if anyone else on here has ever been like this and found a way to stop? Ive tried and tried to stop drinking them. I would love to start drinking more water.

Re: Addicted!!!!!
They must put something in M.D., cause I have a friend that is the same way. Drinks it like his life depends on it.

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Cases a day?
Your well on your way to becoming a Diabetic.
You just need to chill out and drink some water young apprentice. That's why your gaining all this weight, all that sugar.
Your seriously putting your own health in front of the firing squad.

Re: Addicted!!!!!
I used to drink a ton of coke at work; you just need to break the habit. I started drinking crystal light instead; which at first helped but then I grew sick of the taste and I started drinking plain old water.
Its a mental effort the first week but afterwards you start to actually enjoy drinking the water. I still drink some soda but I limit myself to drinking it with a meal.
Like any other habit you need to really want to break it in order for it to work. Good luck!

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Yep, I'd go with water. Once you start drinking a lot of water everyday, you'll likely find soda too sweet.
Remember, your poor teeth are the only ones you got!!!!
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
I used to be like that. The only way I found to stop is that I just don't keep keep it in the apartment. When the only drink you have available is water, once you get thirsty you don't have many options and must turn to water. Eventually you will break the habit. I would bet some money that part of the addiction is the caffeine. People underestimate how addictive caffeine is. Good luck! You will feel much better when you drink more water and less soda.

Re: Addicted!!!!!
I don't drink any soda and drink at the very least a gallon of water every day and I am still 260. Glad I don't drink soda now ;)

Look at the caffiene content in MD. You are as hooked on MD as if you were a huge coffee drinker except the sugar content is huge also.:O

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Someone else has also told me to try the crystal light thing. Ill have to give that a try. IM seriously trying to stop with it. I never thought I would be addicted to a soft drink. But I have got to do something. Ive been finding that if I go so long without a mountain dew I actually get ill or grumpy. My mother also told me about the diabetic thing saying im drinking way to many sodas a day. We buy 10-15 cases every time we are at walmart and I think its time to just stop. Thats just way to much. And I didnt really notice anything until after I started gaining weight I relized my pants were a little tight and then I started to notice it.
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
How many soda cans are in a case? 24?
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
the ones we buy there are 12 in each. And I will drink at least 24-36 cans a day. And I dont sip them either. If I have been out side working or cleaning snake cages or something I will actually drink an entire can in one gulp. And I just think its time to stop.

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Make smoothies out of frozen berries, french vanilla yogurt, and a little water blended up and pureed in an average blender... This is very healthy to drink and will become your new addiction... Then start increaes the amount of water you put in there until you start drinking solely water... Drink a bottle of water with every meal, and eventualy (i know this happened with me), whenever you drink something unhealthy, you will Feel It!
~Brandon
ORRRRR OR OR OR....
You can enter a mountain dew drinking contest.. Win it and use the money to get lipo-suction and therapy... :D
But i think my first way is a better idea...

When you are able to go a long time without it do you get tired. If so it is the letdown from the sugar high and the caffiene

Re: Addicted!!!!!
When I was in the Army we used to drink a ton of Mt. Dew, we even had wives/girlfriends sending it overseas to us in care packages.
I just stopped buying it and buying bottled water instead, besides feeling better it saves alot of money.

Re: Addicted!!!!!
I have a friend who is a vegaterian and he does not drink soda and he told me the same thing pretty much that if I stopped eating fast food and stopped drinking soft drinks for a period of time and then wwent to mcdonalds and got a burger and a coke that I would feel how bad it was for my body.

I just googled mountain dew callories and it said 110 cal in 8 oz. So if each can is 8 oz and you drink 36 in a day that is 3,960 cals just in soda...

I do not drink sugared sodas, and can tell instantly if someone hands me one. You can even smell the sugar and oil in it. I will never go back to drinking sugared sodas

I know exactly how that feels we are spending a ton of money on it. Like I said we get at least 10 cases a week usually its around 15 and I get two bottles everytime we stop at a gas station or if we go anywhere. We drove to the beach about a month ago and I went through 3 12 packs in a 4 hour drive to myrtle beach

I do not recomend this for a long term solution, but you might switch first to coffee, this will allow you to deal with the sugar addiction first. then get weaned from the coffee to get rid of the caffiene

Re: Addicted!!!!!
I used to be the exact same way with Dr. Pepper and Coke... I rented Supersize Me about 3 months ago and that actually has helped cut my addiction pretty much cold turkey. I wasn't a 2-3 caser /day but I'd take down about 6 cokes/DPs per day.
Look at Ralph Davis these days. He said he quit drinking soda and he's REALLY slimmed down!
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
I did notice ralph on his youtube videos he looks alot healthier. Its gotten so bad with me that I weighed in at 160 my last pyhsical and I weighed last week at 230 Ive almost gained 100 pounds just off of soda and I feel horrible about that I can not stand being this big. And the craziest thing about it is I did not even relize I was gaining weight and it was just like it hit me out of nowhere. That I weighed over 200

I calculate that if MD has 110 cal per 8oz when you consume two 12 packs you are drinking 3960 cal per day. A typical female should have about 1200 cal per day total Does this help with the motivation

A daily caloric intake for a female of average size is still 2000 calories.. Not 1200 unless they are on a severly restricted diet.
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
The MD can be a hard habit to quick, as with any habit. Mine is sweet tea (southern style). I don't like water, so I've started drinking water with a splash of cranberry & a squirt of lime juice, it works for me. Good luck with trying to quit.

Sorry My bad

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Wowza! I dont think i could drink two to three cases of anything in a day. hehe
One of my close friends lost a lot of weight by cutting sugar out of his diet. He replaced soda and candy with fruit and juice... Natural sugars in fruit are much healthier for you then high fructose corn syrup. Next time you are jonesin', grab an apple or a glass of OJ.
Good luck!

Re: Addicted!!!!!
If you lead a very sedentary life style, especially females, can easily maintain weight with 1200 calories, and men at 1500 calories. If you are moderately active, 2000+ is obviously what you'd need. More physical you are, the more calories you will burn just sitting there.
Sedentary = sitting at computer 8 hours a day, and no exercise.

My Food service director wife and Dregistered Dietician sister-in-law agree with you. I thought 1200 was right but never argue with a woman about weight just say yes mam and move out of reach:rofl::rofl:

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Dude, just cold turkey it if you can. That is really the only way to stop. My boyfriends roommates are the same way. I am going to try and get them to stop drinking it because its really going to start adding up soon.
You know it is bad for you so just try some alternatives. I don't drink soda anymore, but I LOVE lemonade.
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
you could start out with maybe a case a day, adding more juice and water everyday. Just keep switching to a different juice because you will get sick of it quick

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Here is a pic to show you exactly how bad it is. All of these were from yesterday except 5 that I had today. I was so proud of myself for only drinking 5 in a day. I also had 4 bottles of water today.

I never tried a Big Mac till I was 19... let's just say that was a mistake I only made once. Your friend speaks the truth!

Re: Addicted!!!!!
WOW, thats alot! i used to drink 1 gallon of arizona tea a day. Now im down to 2 glasses or so. There were lots of headaches when cutting down on the caffeine, but its not so bad.
Btw, how are those game fuel flavors? I wasnt a big fan of the voltage. Actually the best mountain dew is the Baja Blast that they only sell at taco bell. DANG is that stuff delicious!
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
I love the game fuel but I love them all lol. I was shocked that I only had 5 today I tried really hard not to drink any. And im going to try to keep it up
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
Ya, ur gonna save a ton of money too man! just figure how many soda-less days would be enough to save for the snake you want!
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!

Re: Addicted!!!!!

Re: Addicted!!!!!
I was just thinking about this thread last night and I noticed that drinking that much liquid is not a good sign, even if it is water.
That pictre yo posted was about 40 cans of soda which is about 60 cups of liquid. 14 liters.
I did a little calculation online, and a person of your weight and range of activity should drink closer to 4 liters of water a day.
If you are craving liquid that much, I would see a doctor. Signs of diabetes can include being very thirsty and using the bathroom more than you need to.

I have a bad feeling Kaorte is right. It doesn't sound like your on your way to diabetes, it sounds like you already have diabetes.
It could save your life to drink water ONLY. Just cut turkey it, starting right now. Theres no reason to be drinking that much liquid at all, and your clearly aware of the negative effects it's having on you.
When you start drinking water every day, you will feel the difference in health, mood, and fatigue.

ANYTHING with a ton of sugar (fructose, lactose or sucrose) and couple that for a sugary acidic drink, they are all bad for your teeth.
-
Re: Addicted!!!!!
Man this is bad... I am glad you are realizing this and taking action... I have a hard time drinking water and my body really needs it so I use Crystal light to help me once in a while. You could try that too to get you into liking water more. I know it has helped me a tonne.
Go get a blood sugar and blood pressure test ASAP because this is definitely very unhealthy and I fear you may already have diabetes.... :(
Good luck.. Please keep us posted.

Re: Addicted!!!!!

Re: Addicted!!!!!
Definitely lay off the soda. I drank a ton of soda when I was younger (working in pizzerias for 10-12 hours a day). I probably drank 6-8 cans a day. Soda is like battery acid on your insides. I have had stomach problems all the way through since. I LOVE the taste of regular soda and have just had to give it up mostly because for me it absolutely causes weight gain (and big dentist bills). I drink a diet soda or 2 every couple of days and ever couple of weeks I'll have a regular soda. Coke Zero is great. Also, Diet Dr Pepper, Diet Mountain Dew, Diet Sunkist, Diet A&W and of course Diet Sprite! When we moved into our new place I got a Poland Spring cooler. I drink more water than ever and feel better for it. Good luck getting that caffeinated, sugary monkey off your back!
