iPhone envy
I have it...It sucks...I am taking Amy to get a 3G today (no 3GS today) and may have to add a line and get one myself. Who has an iPhone and loves it? I have a Blackberry Storm and this is the first BB that I haven't loved.
-
Re: iPhone envy
My fiance has that IPOD thing without the phone. She just likes playing games on it. Shes hooked on it haha
I myself have the newest BlackBerry out and I LOVE it......
until the next newest one comes out:D

Re: iPhone envy
I think the iPhone is pretty nifty but I'm kinda boycotting Apple products.

Re: iPhone envy
I've gotten myself out of so many jams and found a lot of great places to go - just because of Google Maps ALONE.
I remember a few weeks ago I was the "tech guy" at a small seminar, and the presenter brought a little wireless mouse that they intended on using with a Powerpoint presentation to click through the slides.... after realizing it had a 3ft range, I had to find an Office store that sells those presentation pointers, with the backward/forward button.
Pulled out the iPhone, typed in "Office Depot" in google maps, it dropped a pin on the nearest one - I tapped the pin, called them and asked them to put a presentation pointer on hold for me, then proceeded to get step by step directions from google maps to that Office depot to pick it up.
That's one instance of many many instances where I've needed to find something close by - I'm forever in love with the capabilities of the iPhone :D

Re: iPhone envy
My cousin got one today and isn't happy. He says the reception is not as good as Verizon or Sprint. I guess if your OK with AT&T....give it a try. They offer a 30 day return policy. On another note.....I just got the Palm Pre. I'm on my 3rd phone in 10 days. I think these phones are being brought to the market place a little early and being fixed along the way.
Good luck Jaime

Re: iPhone envy
I read some post before that said something about the spouse being afraid that if there's a fire, the other spouse will grab the iPhone before saving the family...
Yeah, I laughed at that and then thought... hmm... I would grab my family, get them to a safe spot then dive in for my iPhone - even if it means the roof is caving in!
I love my iPhone... my husband feels the same way about his. There is just nothing like it. Not the blackberry, not all the other iPhone wanna bes...

Re: iPhone envy
Blackberries have google maps as well, that function in exactly the same way that it did on your Iphone...
-
Re: iPhone envy
I think an iPhone is worth it if you already have and Apple computer. I have a Blackberry and while satisfied with it, I would like something that would sync with my computer more easily. For instance, when I upgraded the OS on my BB, there was no way to do it through OSX. Luckily I also run XP through Parallels.

I've never had a blackberry, so I really can't dislike them for any reason...
However, with the amount of iphone Apps that are available now and the ability to develop for the iphone, I have no reason to even consider a blackberry. And i'm sure you CAN develop apps for a blackberry, but I've never seen a market for blackberry apps. Maybe it exists..i dunno :confuzd:

Re: iPhone envy
Shawn got one last week. I'm still using my 3 year old Razr. He plays with that thing constantly and yeah, I'm getting a bit of envy.

Re: iPhone envy
Can't live without my Iphone.
Single best $200 I ever spent.

Blackberry now has "App World" which has many of the same apps minus ones that use the "tilting" of the iphone/itouch

Re: iPhone envy
I absolutely adore my Iphone and I could not live without it. And while I've never owned a Black Berry, I have tested them out and I still prefer my Iphone. I will most definitely be upgrading when this contact runs out.

Re: iPhone envy
My son has an iPhone and feels that it has more uses than the peanut does.

Re: iPhone envy
i love the apps I have an ipod touch right now
iphones are nice and are finally coming out with stuff that other phones already have.
that was one of thee only things i didnt like about it, that and that you cant make the keyboard horizontal when texting
i have a Black berry curve right now and im not very happy with it, im on my 3rd one....>:(

I heart my iphone!

Re: iPhone envy
I've been through a few iPhones myself. My GF and the girls all have them. I personally don't like being tied to itunes for everything, but it's nice phone. I currently use an HTC Touch Pro running a cooked Windows 6.5 Rom, a Blackberry Bold and Samsung Jack. The apps are the big thing with the iPhone is the apps, and you won't get that anywhere else...at least not at the same level.

Re: iPhone envy
I'm a diehard Verizon Wireless customer, and won't consider changing to another carrier.
However, Verizon and Apple are in talks about developing a phone that uses the same technology as the iPhone (essentially, a different model and style, but same touch and apps).
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/wireles...n-iphone_N.htm
http://news.cnet.com/apple-prepping-...-with-verizon/
Also, Apple's contract with AT&T ends in 2010, opening the door for other wireless providers to carry iPhones.
-
Re: iPhone envy
t mobile i think is the only other company in the US that would be able to use the current iphone though, I wouldnt be surprised if apple and at&t renew the contract too
-
Re: iPhone envy
Apple added an additional 3 yrs to their contract with AT&T a couple of months back. They may create a new device for Verizon though. I'm just waiting for the Palm Pre to come to AT&T.

Re: iPhone envy
So I've been playing with Amy's new iPhone for about 2 hours and I am hooked. I don't think I've ever loved a piece of electronic equipment as much except the TiVo. This thing is AWESOME! She hasn't even gotten to touch it yet. :) I am going to have to go buy one tomorrow.

the 3.0 software that was released the other day now allows you to do that.

Re: iPhone envy
So I got one yesterday. Needless to say I haven't done anything else but use this damn iPhone! It is really amazing. I had been using a Blackberry since the first one came out but I can't see myself ever going back. Integrates with my work email and does things the Blackberry absolutely cant!
-
Re: iPhone envy
I'm not a huge Hp or Apple lover either but i had a Blackberry 1800 series. Once you use the iphone you will never go back to anything else. To many features to ingnore and I have had great reception with it.:salute:
-
Re: iPhone envy
Just got my samsung impression and played with it over the weekend. I love it. The navagation app is nice.
-
Re: iPhone envy
The problem with the iphone is it is only for AT&T.
Verizon was going to carry it but apple said they could only use Itunes and verizon already has millions invested in there music apps.
I have used every wireless phone carrier there is and now will only use Verizon because there signal is superior and my business counts on that. I have a storm which I am happy with but if the Iphone goes to Verizon I may switch.

Agreed. Most everyone here at work that has a work issued cell phone (on AT&T) complains about dropped calls and general un-happiness with AT&T as a provider, and use Verizon for their personal phones.
-
Re: iPhone envy
I just got the Touch yesterday. My laptop is being repaired right now, so there's no music on it, but at least I can come on the forum. Hehe :P
Btw, did anyone get the 3.0 software? I'm debating it, but I heard it slows everything down.

Re: iPhone envy
I have an iPhone and normally love it. Not today though. For some reason it is not connecting to my e-mail.

Re: iPhone envy
I just got a nokia E71x. It's like a blackberry at 1/3 the price, had built in wifi so if you hit a hotspot, you can surf the net WITHOUT any data plan in place! You also get awesome reception, without dropped calls(reserving judgement on that until I've used it more, but so far it's got no dead zones), and it's easy to use, has a full keyboard, lots of functions! Best of all, no $30 a month in order for it to work like an iPhone.
I thought about the iPhone, but the extra $30 a month just so it'll work, and the poor reception, made it a "no-go". The VU was the 2nd choice, but this nokia has better reception, and actual KEYS to hit, rather than the smooth screen.
So far, I'm quite pleased, and I rarely like anything new. Right now, I just have to get the dangle attached to the corner of it, and it'll be complete.

Re: iPhone envy
I bought a 3G iPhone last Monday. I absolutely loved it. Two days later I decided to upgrade to the 3Gs and just picked it up today.
These phones are AMAZING. Period.
I own Apple and RIMM (Blackberry) stock so I figured I would go into the store with an open mind to the two companies. IMO, the iPhone blew the Blackberries out of the water.
My dad picked up a 3G iPhone as well and he is not the most tech savvy guy. He adores his iPhone and can't even remember how he operated his business without it...

Re: iPhone envy
My old phone just died.
I paid $19.99 + tax for a nokia "pre-pay" phone, for use with t-mobile(i hate locked cell phones, should be illegal) from wal-mart.
I'm not using pre-pay service, it's just the cheapest phone you can buy in the US to use with a t-mobile sim card.
Sure, no web and no camera, but you know what? I've got hundreds of $, not only in the cost of the phone but also in the cost of phone service, in my pocket that I wouldn't have if I had an iPhone.. not to mention iPhone service fees(like $80 a month for everything, right?? ridiculous) and the possibility of limitless numbers of apps to purchase.
I'll put that into a bank account. Or towards snakes. Or fishing. Or maybe a new hobby.. I've always wanted to get into target shooting. Or just blowing up watermelons. 10-gauge shotgun perhaps?
No way I'd trade any of those possibilities for internet on a phone. Thank you, my laptop is all I need.. My digital camera and phone can all be seperate. No jack-of-all-trades technology wanted here.

Here AT&T is the only company to use if you are going to leave Dallas or Ft. Worth.
Reception just is not that good with other companies.
I have a hard time believing that I will every buy anything other then the iPhone.

Re: iPhone envy
There will be a new iPhone released each year, but i'm not sure that they can make em much cooler. The great thing is that it's all firmware based to add features to older models later.

Re: iPhone envy
AT&T is the best coverage here too. Verizon.. not so much. Plus with AT&T, everyone you call who is also AT&T doesn't cost you minutes. So now I have a really low minute plan(cheap per month) because nearly everyone I ever call is also AT&T anyway! I just got into texting, and am trying to figure out how many texts I'll be sending a month so I can pick the lowest plan that covers my number of texts too.

I'm with you on that one. Not to mention the iPhone probably wouldn't last longer than a month if I took it to work with me. What's the point of having a cell phone if you can't take it with you? :P

Re: iPhone envy
One of my friends got stabbed in the heart for his BlackBerry Storm, I still use the same cell phone I did 3 years ago.

Good question! The list of apps I regularly use:
Shazam - Identify songs that you hear on TV or the radio. Gives all kinds of info and links to buy. Ingenious!
Sirius/XM App
Facebook
Twitterfon
Evernote - Allows you to create notes; text, voice, attach pics. Syncs to the web
Pandora - Free music. Love it
Ragdoll Blast - One of my favorite games
Paper Toss - Another fun one

Re: iPhone envy
I'm a Blackberry user (I use it for business email and can't use a touch screen to save my life), but what is appealing about the iPhone is that I would be able to integrate my cell phone, ipod, and sirius stiletto all in one device. Right now, carrying a Bb, mp3 player, and satelite radio handheld at the same time is rediculous. I'm probably going to end up getting one when my contract permits, even if it means jumping on the Apple iDouche-wagon.

I was a Blackberry fanboy...Everything they put out I wanted...The iPhone kills the BB as far as usability. I use it for everything!

Re: iPhone envy
I would love to get an IPHONE but I will NEVER do business with AT&T. Having worked for AT&T for many years it is safe to say that it would literally have to be over my dead body.
Hopefully one of these days either they will be available thru other companies, or one of the competitors will step up with something comparable. Until then I will survive just fine WITHOUT AT&T in my life! In my area I swear by Sprint. But yes, their phones suck.

Re: iPhone envy
I am completely addicted to my iphone. It has solved any issue I ever had about forgetting my phone. ;)
Some of my favorite apps:
Twittelator Pro - I am also addicted to twitter and this is by far my favorite twitter app, although Tweetdeck is a good free option, just doesn't do as much.
Pandora
Evernote
Alarm Lite - I use this so that I have a visible clock while lecturing and as an alarm clock when traveling (although alarm is not very loud). Must be plugged in for overnight use.
TextFree Lite - I don't text very often and usually only to one or two people, so I don't have a texting plan. With this app all texts that you send are free, and if your friend also has the app and uses it, the texts that you receive from them will also be free. Saving me lots of money this summer as our friends are in Germany and the kids are using it to keep in touch.
Read it Later - I use this on both pc & iphone to save links (articles, blog posts etc) so I don't forget to go back & read them.
Amazon Kindle - turns iphone into kindle.
Flight Status - not free, but very handy if you travel a lot or if you make frequent airport runs to pick up others.
Wordpress - to keep blog updated. I haven't actually used this yet - I don't blog often and I usually want to add lots of pics.
Epicurious - cool recipe app - will generate a shopping list for you.
Pocket Informant Lite - great app that has calendar and to do list together in one place.
PayPal - Just found this (Thanks Lew!!) Can now easily use PayPal at shows.
Google Earth - just plain cool
Edit: Just added Stanza - looks very cool!

The 'AroundMe' app is by far the most used program on my iPhone
