    First time being held!
This is my Rico baby I got in December. SH07048
Father is a PNG and one of the most amazing snakes IMO.
Mother is a farm bred Biak type.

This guy is around two now so I think all his color is pretty set. He really got a lot from dad. He did receive his mother typical attitude. This is the first time I've handled him. I think I can work with him to correct the problem.

The pics are actually pretty backwards. I put them in that container to clean and he was being pretty calm (only attacking the hook 10-15 times). I took him outside with the intent of just taking pics of him on my homemade hood. He calmed down a lot and was being really active so I put on some gloves and got him up. We hung out in the yard for many clicks on the camera. Eventually I built up the courage to try and bare hand him. I'm very glad I did. He's been my favorite even before I thought I'd ever be able to own him.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

I just checked my records from Rico. He's celebrating his 25th month of being alive TODAY!

Will, this guy is the same way. I use a long piece of thick pvc pipe (1 inch I think it is) and took a coat hanger. Bend it down and tape it onto the pipe. Make sure to tape the hooked end that you would use to hang cloths up with really well. It's pretty sharp. Kinda ghetto but it works for these little guys.

Biaks are amazing to look at, although I hear they are mean little devils. The glove sort of supports it. I haven't read much about PNGs. Anyway, sweet Chondro.

Thanks guys. Biaks are said to have the worst temper, but I believe it depends on the snake. This guy was with the breeder for the first year and a half. In a room of 250+ snakes I'm sure he did not get handled much and this was the first time in the 7 months he's been with me that I've done much with him. I've held a biak for many minutes then it turned around and bit the next guy who held it. The holder made some errors and was not upset with the snake at all. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, right?

Colin, I honestly doubt the glove would do anything more than get hung in his teeth. Just a security blanket for me I suppose. Chondro bites are over rated but not to be underestimated. A carpet of similar size packs a bigger punch with (slightly) longer teeth.

i wear a glove with two of my snakes... i think it helps mask the heat signature of your hand if nothing else - which is definitely a good thing. either way, nice chondro.

Im still confussed. lol. sorry man. So you tape the coat hanger on the pvc, wait untill the are perched on the hanger then pull the hanger off? (a step by step with pics sure would make a nice sticky!)

Helpful hint - if you take them outside on the perch and let them warm up to outside temps - they won't read your body temp and handle very easily. I have a bad news male who I wouldn't handle and one day I took him out in the heat and he was fine!

DrL, do you think it's because of your heat signature or a lack of the instinct to defend their territory sense they are no longer in the cage? We got this guy out a few times at the reptile shop. He tagged one of the employees a few times, but she touched him just behind the head. She pretty much knew it was coming when she did. She has a great collection of chondros. Anyways, he didn't seem to mind too much as long as you were slow and deliberate with him. Your point seems valid, but I really hold to it as them feeling insecure and not willing to bite because they know we are bigger and they can't hide. I think each snake has personality and each one is going to act differently in the same situation. Some will bite out of the cage until you mist them. Your point is one I've never heard before and it makes a lot of sense. :gj:
