How is your BP's feeding response?
How is your BP at feeding?
For those of you with multiple BPs, take the one that has been in your collection for the longest.
Feel free to elaborate.
For the first year with me, my BP had an awful feeding response. However, recently she has become a great feeder, never rejected a live mouse... that's the only problem. Ever since her feeding response changed, she's decided she doesn't like rats anymore.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
my tiger is ridiculous she eats everytime and i think she wants to eat my dog since its an ameican eskimo and has white fur

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
My 08 male normal only refused once. He has been a great eater otherwise with an awesome feeding response.
-
Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
The majority have a great feeding response, a few have a very agressive feeding response :O and of course a few are very picky.
-
Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Any chance you could make this multiple choice? :)
But I picked always been a great eater because out of 14 current snakes and some six or eight more we've had, we've only had one that was a consistently bad eater, and she died suddenly and without warning or signs of illness (other than not eating) so I think there was something wrong with her.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
26 bp's break down as follows:
21 f/t feeders
5 still on live
75% great feeders
15% slow response to attack, but feed regularily
10% fussy

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Only have one but she has never refused in the coming up on one year I've had her. Always has a strong feeding response but not what I would call aggressive
EDIT: She has been on F/T since I purchased her and switched from mice to rats on the first attempt

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
14? Bps...only 3 live eaters. Used to be 8 live eaters but one day they all just switched to F/T as I make it a habit to offer F/T to live eaters first before giving to the actual F/T eaters. BEst day ever btw.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
My normal refused food one time. I think she thought it was too big and it might stretch out her lovely neck! Another time she took it backwards and it took her like 5 hours (freaked me out).
Since then we have switched to live and she has had NO problems. Always takes it and looks for more.
Then there is the bee...little guy....HUGE appetite!! He is only 2 1/2 months old and he is eating full size adults...2 of them at a feeding. When he finishes he looks at you like..."ok...where is the next one". He has eaten like he hasn't been fed in years since day one. And he finishes quicker than any other snake I have ever seen. Crazy!! But I love it!!

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I have a number of them..some have great feeding responses most of the time, some ..okay..some very poor but eat when they want, so still healthy..guess they are all different ;)

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I have 11 snakes, which includes, 8 ball pythons, 2 corn snakes, and a colombian red tail boa. The boa used to have a feeding problem, which is why she is so small, but is now eating once a week. I will soon be moving her to rat weans. The ball pythons are pretty much good eaters, especially now that I've switched everyone to f/t. I have 2 ball pythons that will occasionally refuse but the rest have actually shows a more aggressive feeding response since the switch. Both corn snakes have never skipped a meal.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I have 42. Only one problem feeder, a handful of fussbudgets who usually eat, but will occasionally go off for a few weeks sporadically, a handful more that are shy, but will eat regularly if not disturbed beforehand, and the rest are chowhounds.
I have a few girls who you have to be cautious of when feeding, as they'll come right out of the bin looking for any sign of movement--have to keep head and limbs clear when feeding them. lol

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I have 5 bps, 4 of which are fantastic feeders. One had a difficult time switching to F/T. We figured out a system now. He will move to his rock at night, and I can only feed him in this particular rock (won't eat from humid hide). When he strikes, I wiggle the mouse/rat around and gradually slow it down to give the impression that he killed it. He's the only one who has had this issue!

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
we had our 1st feeding last night with my new snakes and they are awesome! very hungry little guys!

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Female pastel: eats F/T everytime with a big strike
male pin: eats F/T most times but refuses when blue or near blue, mostly big strikes but sometimes I need to leave the rat in there for a while
male normal: ate great for a year, now hasn't eaten in 14 months

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I've had my adult BP for 3-4 months, she has proven to be a total pig thus far. Hasn't missed a single meal. I suspect she would continue to eat everything offered until she burst :P
Could have something to do with the fact that she's been neglected for a huge portion of her life...

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Ive got a 300g male that ate 4 nights ago, ate last night, and seems hungry again today. I guess adult mice and rat pups arent enough for him?

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
my male albino eats and strikes great! and after he takes it down he just looks at me with his huge bulge asking if "thats it??"
my female het is a different story...its as if she's scared of the rat, if i hold it really still, she'll put her nose to it for like 2 minutes but never strike, and if i move even a little, she runs and hides into a ball! If i leave the rat in with her and put the tub back into the rack with the lights off she'll eat it within 5 minutes but i noticed she doesn't even constrict it!!?
what can i do to fix this?
-
Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Hi,
Are you feeding live or F/T?
If F/T then there really isn't anything to fix.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
My little female normal has eaten every time, on time, since getting her almost 3 months ago. Actually, not too long ago her readiness to feed surprised me.
I had just brought home a mouse, and I usually never pre-scent because she always takes it anyway, but never before staring her food in the face for 10 seconds. This time, I took her out, literally stuck her head inside the feeder's travel box to let her get the scent, stuck her back in the tank, and she just sat there with the most 'venomous' look in her eyes, and took the mouse the very second I dangled it in front of her. Made me smile. :D

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
My girl that I've had the longest has always been a great feeder, except December last year she didn't eat for about 6 weeks.
Ever since she hasn't missed a meal. My other four haven't missed a meal- two eat thru shed.
-
Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Well, the one I've had the longest is a normal male; he's an April 1999 hatchling. He eats in the spring but not most of the summer, and then takes food sporadically in the winter. He's weird. LOL
My other snakes are all over the place with feedings. Have 4 that take meals every week without fail unless they're in shed (and one girl will take them then) as soon as they're offered. One girl takes them every week, but you have to leave the prey in there with her and she eats it while she's alone and everything's quiet. Have one very picky eater. Have 2 large females (normals) that typically feed well if they've bred the previous season, and stop in the late fall when they haven't bred (or when they've gained back all the weight they lost). Got 2 sporadic males between 1,000-1,500 grams that feed whenever they feel like it. LOL

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I've only had my BP for a couple weeks but both feedings have gone very well, and his feeding response has been great! Here's to hoping he keeps it up! :gj:

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I've had Ella for about 2 months now and she's a total pig. I think she'd eat everyday if it was offered. She readily takes 2 large f/t mice every 6-7 days and we're quite happy with that arrangement. Gotta watch the hands with her - she'll come to the top of her cage as soon as she smells the mice and will strike at the first warm thing she sees. Lovin' it.... :D

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
My girl eats like a champ! She always strike within just mear moments of the rat being dropped in. But after her little accident, I don't know how she'll react her next feeding day.

Haha!! That reminds me of my bee, Queen Neffie!!! She eats like a horse!! She is just 9 months now..never refused a meal!!

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
My first few weeks with opera she was scared of the mouse. I had to leave the F/Ts in with her and then she'd ear them. But slowly she got used to the tongs and now she snatched them off viciously.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Once I've put mine in his feeding box, Nobody better lower their hand in their untill after he's eaten! :P Gotta love him! People say they can't get theirs to eat....I can't get mine to stop!!! I probably just jinxed myself.... :snake:

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
Abuja had an awful response, then he had a great one, then he fasted for the winter, and now he's eating wonderfully again. He's off and on more often than Ross and Rachel.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
2 BPs. First one was fussy for the first 2 weeks, we had to leave the mouse in the enclosure (F/Ts). They we changed our heating method. We now use a clay feeder pot from petsmart, you heat the water for 2 mins in the microwave and then put the mouse on a landing over the hot water and close the lid. 5 - 7 mins later its ready.
Since then not a problem.
The new snake has struck and took the mouse no problem the 2 times hes been fed so far.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
My two favorites are both hitting the 1000 gram wall and haven't been eating. We've been having sort of a weird beginning to summer, it's staying overcast which is really out of the ordinary, so I'm hoping that's the reason.

Re: How is your BP's feeding response?
I have one in particular that has never refused a meal. But at the same time he doesn't strike obviously constrict either. But he has and or is ready to take a shot at me just about every chance he gets, hence the name Triggers. I have done everything I can to his F/T M rats besides feed him live (that's not something I'm willing to do), to get him to strike and I get nothing. So I lay his food down, come back later and its gone.
I guess he figures the foods is already dead, so why not save his energy for me. I haven't been tagged yet :please: but I think that's because I expect it. So I'm way more cautious around him since he's the largest and seems to be waiting for me to slip up.
