Skinny Snake Alert. I think I need help!
Hey guys, I'm super new to the whole python world.
I just bought a BP from a local petshop. Apparently he/it is 6 months old.
I'm very concerned about his weight because he looks much slimmer than everyone else's babies..:tears:
He is 19 inches long. And weighs only 53 grams. I JUST weighed him and he ate 2 days ago.
They had him eating med. f/t pinkie mice, and I could even tell they were too small so I gave him a little live fuzzy mouse about 1.5 inches long, and about approx. the same girth as my little Diesel. He ate it with no problems. I have some pics too.

What do you guys think?:(
Re: Skinny Snake Alert. I think I need help!
Yes, he is skinny. At least he is eating. Feed him every 5 days and he'll catch up.
Re: Skinny Snake Alert. I think I need help!
his head is so big haha, yeah just feed him every 5 days
Re: Skinny Snake Alert. I think I need help!
Some pet shops are notorious for underfeeding. When I purchased my ball python (from a Petsmart) they were feeding him 6 fuzzies a week and he was about 1000grams. :O

Also I doubt if that snake is 6 months old..It might be six weeks.. Even feed twice a month it would be in better shape than that.. Like has been siad feed him every 5 days and like a chia pet watch him grow

That was an exaggeration..
Petstores are know for their ability to skew the truth in order to make a sale. This doesn't hold true for all pet-stores I sale animals to many local pet-stores who pay a higher price for the comfort of knowing they are getting healthy animals to sale to their customers.

Wow, so many newbies enter this site,
Did not realize how popular ball pythons are...
Now I don't feel so new anymore.
Pretty sure everyone will agree here when I mention to take a look at the caresheet for your BP...Making sure you have everything set up properly...

Nice BP!

Re: Skinny Snake Alert. I think I need help!
What size tank is that by the way? I think I have the same water bowl and it's huge, but it looks tiny relative to everything in the picture.
Re: Skinny Snake Alert. I think I need help!
he does have a big head lmao its like a python bobble head
but yea every 5 days should get him big :gj: make sure he isnt dehydrated my friends bp wasnt starving but was looking skinny cause he was dehydrated
Re: Skinny Snake Alert. I think I need help!
Hey, yes I checked the car sheets, I have everything he needs.
Heat pad, proper substrate, heat lamp, temp and humidity gauge, water, hiding on both warm and cool sides...
My tank is only 10 gal. So my dish is actually quite small, big enough for my scrawny lil fella tho..
Once he gets bigger and fatter i'll buy a 30 gal.
He doesn't seem stressed.. He sleeps alot but he is active at night and was bathing the other night. When I handle him he doesn't ball up for long, he likes pockets and what not. He ate very well when I gave him his first live mouse.
He is too skinny to eat much more than a fuzzy like 1.5 inches long...
I'll feed him more frequently, and I feel that that will help.
At least feeding a snake is more interesting than feeding a dog... :D:cool:
Thanks for all your input everyone!
I REALLY appreciate it!
