What's your maintenance schedule for eggs in the 'bator?
I'm interested in hearing the things established breeders do to and for their eggs while they're in the incubator.
How often do you actually open the tub to check on them? Blot away condensation? Touch them? Etc...
Re: What's your maintenance schedule for eggs in the 'bator?
Put them in, check them once a week or so to maintain the temps and the humidity.
If there are problems (mold developing, problem roll out eggs, etc), I check more often, once every couple of days.
I do not mess with them much. I don't burp them much either. Once a week seems to work for me.
But I do check the thermostat often, but that does not require opening anything.

This freaks me out. It sounds so hard to get everything right. I need a helper in person to tell me what to do! :)
Re: What's your maintenance schedule for eggs in the 'bator?
Oh yeah, forgot a question. If you've got a glass front on the incubator, how many times a day do you stand there with your face pressed against the glass daydreaming? Is that something that never goes away? I sure hope not!

Awww, mine's not glass fronted, I can't do that ;) If it was I would do it a lot.
Re: What's your maintenance schedule for eggs in the 'bator?
I use clear tubs so about once a week I peer into them all through the sides. If I don't see anything wrong they won't get touched or opened for 60 days! I get nearly 100% hatch rate so I'm not sure what the benefit is of opening them for air.

I am with Justin -- I don't open at all until day 45-50 when I take Press N Seal off from under lid and put back in cooker until hatching.

Lol, Maybe I need to breed birds or something so I can go touch and roll them every couple of hours!
I hate wait!

I think I looked in the glass door of the incubator when I woke up, when I got home & before bed at the minimum. :P When they hit day 52 I would ask them to come out. :D

Lol...me too! Checked the thermostat a zillion times a day. I'm much calmer with this second clutch, but I still sneak a peek through the glass at least once a day.

Me too. I have a glass door incubator so I dont need to open it much. Near the end I may remove press n seal and put on a glass lid so I can see the pips clearer. I dont even cut my eggs, I just leave them alone until they pip, I have enough animals and plants to take care of.
I also tape my press n seal down because my fan has loosened it up at times drying out the mix a bit. In that case I may spray a little water on vermiculite but never directly on eggs.

I check them more than i check my myspace thats alot of checking!! its day 58 i just want to yank em out of the shells j/k but i am dying for them to come out of their shells . my next clutch i will be more patient...i waited 2 years to produce lessers so yeah i was super excited. be patient they arent going anywhere
Re: What's your maintenance schedule for eggs in the 'bator?
I dont know for being my first clutch I think I am doing pretty well. I check on them maybe every other day if that. I have noticed when I check on them more often time seems to slow down. My whole method of set it and forget it seems to be working much better. Heck I have to check on a calender to see what day it is. day 22 or 23 i think lol.

You could probably cut them now if you want to see them just don't take them out of the egg?
