    4in Flexwatt enough for a 41qt sterilite?
I am almost finished constructing my rack (made of 4'x2' melamine). I had originally went with both 4in and 11in flexwatt, but I want to switch to all 4in tape so I can use just 1 thermostat. I am using strips 4 feet long, and plan on snaking it across towards the back, up the back then across towards the front on the next level to heat two 41qt on different levels.

I think this would give enough heat to the 41qt containers, right?

:gj:I just built a rack also for 41 Qt. Sterilite tubs. When heating a rack, you only want to provide a hot "spot". I wouldn't recommend heating the whole tub. You need to leave the snake a option to cool of if they would like to.

Yeah, I am not heating the entire tub, just a 4in strip along the short edge of the 41qt tub.

I can also fit 3 32qt containers in, and with those I will just have one 4in strip lengthwise along the back.

    Is it a sideways rack?

If your room doesn't drop below 75-72 degrees you should be ok with 4 in flexwatt.

I would suggest getting an 11" x 12" sheet of flexwatt for one side of the bin... 4" is too small... The 11x12 will provide a good enough hotspot, (90-94 deg. if using a thermostat) while also giving an ambient of about 80-85...

    Too small? :confuzd:

Most commercial racks (AP, ARS, Freedombreeder) only use 3 or 4 inches wide strips of flexwat heat tape for their adult rack and it works perfectly. :gj:

I totally agree. 4" down the center can create a nice ambient temp....but then if you need to offer a hot spot you'll need another tape.

I only offer a good ambient to my boas. Never have had a problem with them.

I am talking about a 3 or 4 inches wide strip across the back of the tub, which is what most manufaturers and people building their own racks use.

I use 11" for my 41's and bigger. 4" for 32's and smaller.

    Just sayin.

Sorry to bring up the dead but is it ok to use this 4" flex watt on the small side of the tub or is for the long side? I just built my rack and I prefer to not have them in sideways

I use it on the back end for my racks I think it gives a better temp gradient

I use 11 inch and would never go back to 4.
