What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
Also, is a Suriname red-tail boa a BCC or a BCI?
How can you tell the difference between the BCI and the BCC?
in your opinion, whats nicer, a colombian red-tail boa, or a Suriname?

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
Surinames are BCC
Some people say you can tell by the way the saddles are on a boa if they are BCC or BCI, this does not seem to be totally accurate though. I think the most accurate way to tell without actually knowing where it came from is a scale count.
What is nicer looking really depends on what you are looking for, Surinames and other BCC or gorgeous animals but so are BCI. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder:)

BCC will get larger than a BCI.
I would like to get a Suriname or a Peruvian, their tails are beautiful.

I am really not sure, I just remember reading that Bcc get bigger, and are more..um..."genuine" or something like that lol.

The google she knows much.
In a nutshell BCCs(Boa Constrictor Constrictor) are more colorful and typically more demanding as far as care. They can also grow larger. BCIs(Boa Constrictor Imperator) are the "common" boas although there are a ton of genetic morphs out there. They are usually easy to take care of and tame and max out at about 9 feet.

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
It took me a while to understand what the visual differences are between BCCs and BCIs, but once you look at a handful of pictures of each and compare them, you'll get a good idea of how they look a bit different.
some BCCs can get truly massive.
Someday I might get myself a peruvian BCC, that'd be awesome.

I believe BCC saddles look like {} and BCI look like ()

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
OK, Here we go....
I never got into this as when I feed em they eat, when they poo I clean it...
But here we go with the who's who...
Basil is a "Boa" BCC or BCI? She was born in 1970 (yes very old, I have the records)..... she came from an old Rock Band which will remain nameless. She also has had multiple fractures and had not received the best care. She is now Approx 6 ft. (she is eating and doing well, but is just so old..)

Now her "saddles are muffled and she is smaller... Is she considered a BCI? I have had close "herpaculturist" friends over to the rescue call her such...
Then we have the new recruit:

The new baby "red tail".. she is approx 30 inches. Can we tell from her "clear" saddles (compared to "Basil") if she is a BCC?
I just don't know, this is why I'm asking. When it comes to size, I get them either "overfed" or most likely starved. It is so hard for me to tell.
That's why I always say, If they eat, and are clean of infection and parasites and poo well, I'll take em!...lol

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
I'll try and get some better shots, she just ate yesturday. Anyhow. I'll start a whole new thread with that....
But do the pics help decipher between the BCI's and the BCC's?

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
I know very little on this matter, but most BCIs that I have seen do not have the same pronounced red tails as BCCs do.
Isn't there something about the connection of the saddles in BCCs as well?

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
Yes the saddles are different as well.

Can you tell me if there is a difference between the pics I posted in this thread. I'm still just wondering.

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
BCI and BCC are subspecies, along with Amarali, Longicauda, Sabogae, etc. BCI is your typical common boa, usually from colombia. This is what most of your morphs will be unless they are crossed with other subspecies. Dont confuse this with the locality of the boa, which may be any of the subspecies (Hogg Island is a BCI for example, and is naturally hypomelanistic, but a totally different snake than a hypo colombian BCI). In general BCC's have the bat like widows peak saddles and a blood red tail, which is why they are called the "true" redtails. They may not be as tame as a BCI either, especially when wild caught. When raised from babies and captive bred they can be just as calm though. To make things even more confusing each locality has its own distinct markings. Some boa keepers are into morphs only, and in this case you are dealing mostly with Colombian BCI. Other more "purist" keepers view morphs as the propagation of genetic defects, and only deal with the various subspecies and locality boas, which all have their own unique patterns and colors in the "normal" form. Some such as myself enjoy them all! ;) Check out Vin Russo's site cuttingedgeherp for some good info on subspecies, localities, etc.

Re: What's the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
I got a couple of pics to show u the difference;
On the picture below you will see the common windows-peaks witch are usually seen on the BCC subspecie, but still here are some without the windows-peaks;
http://www.kb-boas.com/Pages/info%20...windowpeak.jpg
As second we have the red tail of a BCC, i never saw a TRUE redtail without the red in the tail;

http://www.kb-boas.com/Pages/info%20...oodstaart2.jpg
Also watch carefully at the side pattern, this is also different from the BCI group, the samples above are from the suriname locality...
My advise;
Just watch loads and loads of pictures, only after a while you really start to recognise them...
PS;
Something i allready wanted to say at this forum;
Why is the redtailed boa subforum in use for imperator boas and morphs as well.... A redtailed boa in my eyes is a BCC no exception...
