How often do you take your snake a bath??
I'm confused, people talk about bathing their snakes often and some say that they really dont like it so you have to do it every once in a while...I had my snakes over 5 months or so and so far they've had 2 baths....is this ok?

Only time I'd ever bath a snake is if it was covered in doo doo, stuck shed or for medical reasons.

LOL, otherwise, they don't need them.

Very rarely but here are some of the occasion.

    Covered in poo

    Stuck Shed

    After laying

All of which do not happen often.

Giving a snake a bath is not a comforting experience for them, from my own experiences with them and baths. I wouldn't give a bath just to make them move. What a way to stress them out!

If you are worried about giving your snake exercise, handle him once a day. Otherwise, BP's are largley sedentary being an ambush predator.

That's really good to know that they can get stressed if they bath too much...Well i handle them like for an hour or so do you think this is plenty of exercise...even though sometimes they are some lazyheads that stay in one place the whole hour...

Do not bathe your snake BEFORE a shed. It will make the shed much more difficult for the snake and remove the oils that help the snake naturally shed.

Balls don't need much exercise. They get plenty from eating alone and occasional handling. Many people rarely handle their animals and they do just fine.

Giving a snake a bath will not force a snake into shed.. that doesn't make any sense.

I give my balls a bath when they are having trouble shedding and especially for my KSB.. who seems to get dehydrated during a shed (and won't use his humid hide).

I think you are spitting out information that you know nothing about.

    simmer, Pat :)

I think he is saying "all snakes shed...it might be in 3 weeks, or it might be in 2 and a half months before it sheds"

Just to clear up this comment, Ball Pythons don't get very much exercise in the wild either. They are ambush predators, and spend near 85% to 90% of their lives in abandoned rodent burrows or termite mounds. They move as much in the wild as they do in your tub.

Like others above me, I bathe my snakes when (a) they smell or have feces/urine on them, (b) they have stuck shed, or (c) if I just got them home from a reptile show.

I have a theory in my head that it relaxes ball pythons to sit in a warm bath. I don't make it hot, just slightly warm for them. Often I will leave them in for a little while and come back to a very calm animal. Who knows though what goes on in their heads.

For exercise, I let my girl explore my bedroom. They really don't need a whole lot of exercise. Obesity is due to overfeeding, not lack of exercise.

I only bathe mine when she's got a stuck shed. Or if she's dehydrated, which she hasn't been. I guess it's a good idea for snakes that have been fasting, to prevent dehydration, but a water bowl also does the trick.

The only time I have bathed one of my snakes was after he had a bad shed.

I give my snakes a bath sometimes after they shed, but usually I don't see the need too.

If any of mine pee a lot and are laying in it I run the shower at a nice lukewarm temperature and rinse them. It doesn't happen too often.

This... The only addition is I work with a rescue agency and in the case of severe dehydration caused by neglect, we sometimes soak as well, although that depends on the animal and the seriousness of the issue. Stress is a very serious concern too.

Mine get a bath whenever they mess their cage. They really like it when the temps are just right, 87 degrees when it's cool out, 85 degrees when it's warm. Works for me here in San Diego. Might be different elsewhere.

If I can tell they're having a bit of trouble passing a bowel movement and bumping the temps doesn't quite get it done, I occasionally give a warm bath with fantastic results.

Only when needed. If they are too dry, or if they are too dirty I'll give them a bath but most times I can wipe them down with a damp face cloth. They're not like people, where they need to be bathed on the regular. Bathing a snake can be very stressful for them, and unless they need it - It's unnecessary.
