Is there anything special about this guy?
Ok so I added that 66% het lavender albino to my collection, and he's adjusted really quickly to his environment so I checked him out today. I noticed some yellow by the belly(barely noticeable in the pics but vibrant in person) , and his eye is half green. I know pastels have green eyes, and my pastel has the yellow by the belly too. His lips are also white. In the third pic he has some weird blushing in his pattern. His pattern is also unlike any I have ever seen. Is there anything special about this guy besides his het lav albino or am I just overexcited about a good looking snake?

He looks like a happy normal(poss het) looking, healthy looking ball python with a cool pattern and neat little bit of blushing on the top of the head.

I was going to just say normal, until I saw his head. He may have something going on, probably just a normal though, either way great snake! :)

    Hi,

I like the busy melted looking pattern. :D

Just to make sure you know though - regular albino and Lavender albino are not compatible. The best (morph wise ) that pairing could give would be possible double hets if both parents proved out.

But it will be a fun project that will keep you going for 6 years plus which is always a fun thing in my book. :)

I was about to mention this but I'm glad someone already did.

Aww nuts. So its about to be on like donkey kong then? Het to het, double het offspring to single het parents? Or double het to double het?

    Hi,

Pretty much all of the above since you would be trying to prove out every single animal for at least one mutuation and the offspring for two.

That's why poss hets are a risk - you could do all that and find out both parents were 100% normal.

The quickest way to prove out your poss hets is with a visual homozygous for the same mutation - because at the very least all offspring from that will be garuanteed 100% het.

There really are no shortcuts I'm afraid - you either spend money or you spend time, and spending time has no gaurantee of success.

Of course you do get baby snakes in the process so it isn't all bad.

    Yup,

Thats the fun of dinking. :D

You could try keeping the morph possibilities seperate to simplify things a bit if you wanted.

    So say,

Sprite x Ribbit, hold back some of the male babies and try and prove out mum.

? x Itsy Bitsy, hold back all of the female babies, grow them up and try and prove out dad.

And, from both pairings hold back what you need to try for sibling to sibling.

Might shave a few years off the process of finding out what you actually have without having to buy any more animals.

w00t...A game plan, I like it. Ribbit won't be ready this year, so Sprite's going to plug away at a Spider female this year. I have to wait until next year for the poss hets. Well actually the lav. should be ready this year. Im just stoked to get started. I can have a million normals hatch and still be stoked.
