Update on my sick snake.
I went to the vet on Monday and my spider ball python does has some problems. A fecal test was sent to the vet's lab and is having a second look now from another lab. He told me that there was hookworm and some form of nematodes that could possibly be part of cryptosporidium, which he said i'd be better off putting the snake in a new home because it's hard to get rid of and can spread to all my other snakes infecting them as well. He was de-wormed so the hookworm is most likely gone now, but the other stuff probably is still there. He said if it's not cryptosporidium, i might be ok. So far the vet bills have aded up to $117, but he's getting me some meds that will most likely make him better over time. I don't even know what that's going to cost =[ I already previously called the breeder and they told me there's no way that the snake could have parasites. Well they're wrong. I hope to talk to the breeder again and possibly exchange this snake for a healthy one or to possibly be helped out with my bills from the vet. Do you guys think the breeder should help me out? I just wish i was sold a healthy snake. Oh and btw the breeder is known by a lot of people, so i'm guessing other snakes that were sold by them were sick as well.

Alright, well I'm wondering what I should do. I'm gonna go give my rats some water. Be back in a few.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
Depending on how long the snake has been in your care a reputable breeder should offer some sort of help to your situation. If you have problems getting them to help then I suggest you take the issue along with any back up you may have...vet documents, emails ect. and post them on the BOI over at faunaclassifieds.com.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
Alright thnx on the info. I've only had him for 3 weeks. They told me that if I bought the animal knowing something was wrong with it they wouldn't do anything for me. Then, I called them back talked to the actual breeder himself, told him I would post his name and his business amomg online reptile forums telling everyone about my sick snake and the horrible service I got. He got all mad and blew up saying, "Thats bull h***! All my snakes are captive bred! There is no way of my snakes having parasites!" So I won't be happy if he does not help me out. I'm sure he won't be too happy if he doesn't help me out as well.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
Sorry to hear about your sick snake. Hopefully the meds clear everything up.
I think some breeders get TOO big. Why should a hatchling put into a clean tub and taken care of properly have worms, etc.. Some breeders produce hundreds of snakes each year. Are the tubs cleaned and disinfected regularly? Is each tub checked every day and cleaned and disinfected when urates and poo are found? Healthy snakes are naturally clean animals.
Some big breeders even have employees to help maintain their facilities and keep them clean and disinfected. There is no excuse for selling unhealthy animals.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
He got mad and blew up! Who is this guy?
I purchased a snake this year that died. It was sent to me in horrible shape. I told the guy it was my first and only bad kingsnake.com experience. We both did our best to act as adults(me mostly, I'd like to punch him in the face). I told the guy that he would't be put on any black list of any kind. He said he would make it up to me in the 09 season. Quote: He said he would "Hook me up". I've decided that I don't want any more animals from him.
The snake I bought was horribly emancipated on arrival. I don't know how it survived the trip. The seller was notified asap. I told him the snake probably would not survivve trip back to him. I did every thing in my power to turn the snake around and he died after about a month.

Did you buy the animal knowing there was something wrong with it.
I would get your vet to contact him or produce a report which could be sent to him on request.
Would you mind PM'ing me the breeders name as well? - purely for personal intrest.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
It is always better to try to resolve things through peaceful means rather than immediately resorting to threats of posting negative feedback and so forth on various forums. That immediately puts everyone on the defensive and can only resort to more hostile activities in the future between both parties.
It's also not fair to pm certain members behind the scenes divulging the breeder's info and not post it for the whole forum to see. If you're going to go that route, than be fair to everyone and make the information available for ALL to see.
It's a shame you're going through such a bad experience with your pet and I do hope he can be treated successfully for his ailments. This is exactly why I take each snake I get directly to the vet for an initial physical and lab tests to ensure all is well. So far I have faired great in that all of my snakes have come back with negative results for parasites, hookworm, and a host of other potential health issues.
Keep in mind also that it might not be beneficial for you to send this snake back for another one now that you've already got that much invested in vet bills and so forth. Chances are you'll be faced with the same dilemma you currently have if you get another snake sent to you from the same breeder. try to work things out with the guy you bought your pet from and hopefully all will end well for everyone concerned. ;)

Re: Update on my sick snake.
No I didn't buy it knowing it was sick. It looked a little on the skinny side, but nothing to the extent that would stop me from buying it. The price was at $200, so it was sort of a deal, at least i thought it was. And Grim, I didn't come straight at them telling them I was going to tell everyone about how bad they were. I was just upset that they were giving me poor customer service and they made it seem like I was the bad person for buying this snake. They told me ALL of their snakes they bring to shows are healthy, and this obviously was a lie after going to the vet and seeing I have a sick snake. It showed symptoms within the week I bought it, so it's not like I made this snake sick. I'm not saying all his snakes are sick, I'm just wanting people to overlook his stuff thoroughly before they buy...I don't want anyone to go through what I am going through. ALSO...my snake was at 375 grams when I bought him. My girlfriend asked the person selling the snake to me if the male was able to breed at this weight and they said YES. LOL they're just trying to make money, it's horrible. And ya I was asking if I should even bother sending him back for a new snake becuase I don't wanna go through all of this again. Thanks though. I want to become a well known breeder one day, but I definitely don't want to be like this breeder...all about the money.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
so who was this breeder? i'm gonna get back into things and i dont want to if it's crypto, that can knock out a whole collection very bad stuff and very hard to get rid of, and to my knowledge can spread to other reptiles :( did you get any info if it's crypto yet?

I will know in a few days.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
I remember you post re: the loose stools when you first got him, he is still in quarantine right?, I hope you and the breeder can come to some agreement on this issue.
Did you notify the breeder and give him a heads up on the loose stools when you got the snake, and that you would be taking it to the vet.
I'm going to be optimistic here, & hope it's not crypto. Keep us updated.

Re: Update on my sick snake.
ya. i had him in one of my empty racks. though i've recently transferred him out into a glass tank becuase i will need the rack soon for snakes growing out of my shoebox rack. I did notify the breeder and he was very rude at first when i tried to tell him my snake i bought from him looks to have parasites. I sent him an email last night talking about the trip to the vet. hoping to hear back from him soon. and ya i hope it's not crypto either...it would suck =[
