    My Tub Setup.
I have been lurking around here for about 2 months gathering all the info I can get before I purchase my Albino BP. I managed to find all my answers through this forum without posting up a single question due to ALL the stickies and the search.

The only thing I am having a problem with is the humidity. I have the bowl over the heat pad and a sponge in a tupperware container with holes in it and can only manage 42%-49%. I have placed a larger (wider) bowl in there to see if it helped and it did not. I know the lamp eats the humidity but i need it to keep the ambient temps up. I was thinking about misting daily but not sure if it will over due it.

Let me know what you think of my set up and if there is anything I need to adjust or fix.

I know the tape is a bad idea but I heard scotch tape doesn't do damage like other tapes. I might end up using hot glue.

These are some key items I have bought for my setup:

    -Herpstat
-Zoo-Med 30-40 gallon UTH (takes up almost half the bottom of the tub)
    -Accurite Thermometer
    -Pro Exotics Temp Gun (PE-2)
    -CHE Lamp w/dimmer
    -Insulation on top and bottom
-Log so he has something to rub up against when he sheds
    -1 Gallon of Chlorhexidine 2%

Anyone from Metro Detroit know of any place to get live mice/rats? Let me know! I only know of one and that's Stinger's Exotics in Livionia.

    Thanks,
    -Nick:sabduel:

ditch the lamp and the sponge container.with the UTH and thermostat you will be just fine for heat, and get a larger water bowl to and i bet your humidity problem will be solved.

**If you cant get your humidity up, and being within range, try puting a handfull or two of aspen grass in the tub on one side.

Yep, it is that crazy lamp setup you have there. You should be fine without it. Unless the snakes room is frigid.

Ditch the lamp. No need with the UTH and Herpstat. And put the water bowl on the cool side not the hot side. :gj:

Before the lamp my ambient temps where 72-76. I was worried about not being around 80 for the ambient temp. Also in the winter i have the coldest room in the house and I remember it getting to the high 50's. So I may purchase a heater for the room.

Do you think the low to mid 70's is ok for the ambient temp?

Where do you have the probe for your thermostat at?

This could be the biggest reason for your low temps.

if you have a thermostat and UTH you dont need to worry about ambient temps as much. Just adjust your thermostat to the temp you need in the tub.

Just get a room heater, loose the lamp and you should be fine.

I stuck it between the bottom of the tub and the UTH. You can kind of see it in the last pic. I read thats where most people put it. Should I put it inside the tube under the substrate (newspaper)?

Well the thermostat is only reading the temps form the heating pad, not whats actually inside the tub, which could be as much as a 10 degree difference.

Some people put the probe inside the tub, while others cut a small section from another tub and place that on the UTH then tape the probe to that so its not a bother by being in the tub where the snake can jar it loose. :gj:

    Hi,

The tape that doesn't cause major problems is the low tack painters tape.

How many of the holes have you tried covering at once?

Then I will have to get some of that tape ASAP!

I have the three holes on the cool side covered on both sides, so 6 all together that are covered.

I placed the T-stat probe in the inside of the tub and my ambient temps still stay around 72-78.

Humidity currently 44%. Hot side: 92, Cool side: 79 (with lamp on low)

throw out the lamp, with it on low its not doing anything but sucking up the humidity anyways.

Petco aspen grass + dollar store water bowl = humidity problem solved

LOL I know these lamps are not the most popular choice but dang you guys really hate them haha. I understand why but I just cant seem to get my ambient temps above 75 without it. I thought the ambient temps need to be 80-82 or is that just preferred? I just dont want to have to deal with a RI.

I may switch to paper towels, not a bad idea.

I have been to that show before but it's a hike to get out there. I will be going soon to check stuff out.

    Re: My Tub Setup.
Try what I mentioned with the thermostat probe, because like I said, when the probeis on the UTH and you program it, the UTH will get to your desired heat, while everything inside will have a significantly lowered value due to heat transfer. :gj:

And have you tried Craigslist for local rodent breeders? They tend to sell feeder for cheaper than most anywhere else. At least around here.

    Re: My Tub Setup.
if you have a thermostat and that huge UTH you should be able to regulate your temps within the tub. ambient temps help if you are using a small UTH or flexwatt but not necessary if the tub temps are ok. but if you are trying to up your room temp go to Target and get a small space heater for $20 and that will give you a boost, and a sauna.

I did end up moving the probe inside the tub last night.

I just ditched the lamp and covered the hole. When winter comes around I will be investing in a heater.

I checked craigslist and cant find any breeders :(

    Thanks again everyone!
