I got hit today :(

I was driving through a little town here in Iowa, you Trekies might have heard of it, Riverside Iowa :rolleyes: :P Anyway, I was enjoying the weather taking my bike tire to a shop in town. I'm sitting at a stop sign and an old man turns the corner and runs smack into me!!!! :O I had enough time to see that he was coming right at me, honk my horn a few seconds, and let go of the break, with my clutch in, so I would roll back a bit. I kept the clutch in because I figured the collision would be a bit less. The old man gets out with a walker and apparently hit the gas and not the break!!!! He also only had a license to drive in town......

Anyway, the collision guy thinks it's got a good $4,500 dollars worth of damage, not much less than what my car is worth :( The old man was driving the truck you can just barely see.

Go to a junk yard and get a new fender and hood! I clear busted up my front end of a car, we bent it back out and it's still driving someone around today.

Oh Geez, Stephanie, are you ok? You're going to be sore in the next few days, so be prepared for that. And they probably will total your car and cut you a check. I'm so sorry that happened to you!

Yep, my radiator and AC are toast and that's before he was even able to open the hood. VWs aren't cheap to fix.

Yeah I'm ok, you're right about the hurting part. My back is hurting to the point that I can barely stand it :( I'm thinking it's totaled too......I ALMOST had it paid off too :tears:

Ouchies - I feel your pain, trust me. :( I hope you're alright and get better soon! Smart job on what you did to soften the blow though. I've been hit twice...both times rear ended, and within 8mths. If you get it fixed, my advice is to make sure that they fix whatever is leaking, since they tend to forget to fix it when you bring it in.

Last sep. some kid in a supra thought it would be a good idea to rear end me at 35mph while I was stopped at a light, and slam me into the Explorer in front of me.

My seat broke....The bumpers are plastic, and the hood is fiberglass and the whole bottom of it was ripped off. The plastic bent in so far that there are holes in BOTH of my license plates.

Really hope everything works out for you. Pushin in the clutch probably helped a LOT. Be sure to ice!!

Oh Stephanie how sad for your car but I'm glad you are okay (well relatively). Have you seen a doctor though about your back? What's this about this old guy only being allowed to drive in town? Huh?

I haven't yet, I'm really thinking about going to a Chiropractor and talking with him on Monday (I've never been to one). I had a really hard time sleeping last night and if I've been sitting/laying still for awhile and move my back cracks like crazy.

Oh, he was only allowed to drive in town because of all the wrecks he's been in :rolleyes:

Glad you weren't hurt(badly)! If your back hurts - you'll have to see about it. You don't want any lasting pain, etc.. Injuries can effect you for the rest of your life. Blah, I'm preachin'.

Yea, the injuries can stick. Mine did. But I don't think you have to worry toooo much about it. Just make sure you keep goin to the chiro (and possibly physical therapy, and get some x-rays to make sure you didnt slip a disk. Their insurance should foot all of those bills); if you let too much time inbetween visits their insurance will claim that its not from the accident anymore, and you're in for a battle.

If I can make a suggestion: try to find a Chiropractor that uses the "Activator method". They use a little hand held device that helps pop things back into place instead of man-handling you. Since you've never been before, you might like it a bit better :P

Thanks Jason and Hypo! I called my insurance agent yesterday afternoon and left a message that my back was giving me problems. I was worried about some sort of time limit to say something about it and it's the weekend so no one will be calling me till Monday.

I definitely don't want any pain lasting! I won't be able to make it to the Chiro tomorrow because of finals so hopefully they won't give me any hell for waiting until Tuesday????

Thats good. Has the guy's insurance called you yet? Normally they call you pretty excessively and ask how you're doing ect. Whats important though, is that THEIR insurance should be covering your medical bills, not yours. So when youre at the doctors you tell em to bill the other parties insurance. You need the info from the other insurance then, of course. So, you shouldn't have to pay anything until you settle your claim with them. Wow, that sounds a little vague...erm..you shoudlnt have to pay anything, period. you keep going to dr visits, and when you are done you "file your claim" which you basically have a file of all of the Dr. bills for the insurance company, they pay them, and you sign something saying that youre all better and wont come after them for anything else. You may even get a little extra money as a settlement. Don't get excited, it'll be like 250 or something.

Only prob is they may deny payment on some things if they're not pertinent to what happened. It's good to keep in touch. Just DONT ever say everything's fine, or give too much info tho their insurance. They are a real pain to deal with sometimes.
