Ahhhh my male is a female but get this...

So I found out my male is actually a female not through sexing but through the fact that SHE is pregnant. So that means not only is my male a female but my female pastel is a male??!!!??!!! '

I got the normal as a male from someone I knew, later got her sexed at NERD and was told she was a male. Later on I got a female pastel that I popped myself and thought I saw hemipenes which I thought was wrong and blew it off since it was the first time I ever popped a snake. Brought HIM to NERD and they sexed HIM as female?

So I had been breeding these snakes and saw multiple locks so I figured all was well. Well now I have a pregnant female normal and a male pastel that I thought was female!

I had posted this picture earlier and people told me that it was weird that the male was on top because usually it's the other way around. Well they were right

I managed to have two missexed snakes and now a pregnant female, so ended up working out. :8:

HAHA Not such a bad thing since it all worked out well in the end!

How do you know the one snake is prego? it could very well be that hey are BOTH males... Males will "lock up"...

She (the normal) is over 500 grams more then a couple months ago and she hasn't had a meal in that time. Also she is visibly (you can really tell) fatter in the second part of her body. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. From this info I am guessing she is a she, but man would it suck if she was a male.

did you contact the breeder that you bought the pastel from? if she is indeed a he you probably paid $250ish for a $75-100 snake

Did you mean 500 or 1500 grams? If you meant 500, I'd be keeping a really close eye on her as her gestation progresses. But by the pics of the lock-up, Im guessing you meant 1500.

I think she meant her female has gained more than 500g in a month.

However, as I'm sure you are aware, the value of the pastel is much less as a male than as a female. If I understood your post correctly, you bought it at NERD. I would expect they would stand behind the sexing of the animal they sold, and do something for you to make it right.

He didn't get it from NERD, he had it sexed at NERD, but I'm wondering if he had it sexed at Zoo Creatures (the pet store downstairs), because Kevin can pop a snake like no-one's business! I know, because he taught me how to pop.

The employees of the pet store, however, would be more likely to make a mistake.

1st Congrats!
2nd if the Pastel is a male but was sold to you as a female there is definately a price difference. An adult female pastel definately has a not only a higher $ Value but then you have to consider the time it will take to get another true female pastel up to breeding size unless you get one that is already an adult.

Think of it this way. If he was a female you could purchase a baby male other morph and be producing combos in the next 1-2 years (Males mature faster). Since he is a male you would need to purchase a female morph to make combos, if purchased as a baby you are more likely looking at 3-4 years to produce a combo.

I personally would contact the seller about the mix-up and see if they would offer you something to make up for the mix-up.

But then again, if you are happy with the animals you have and the mix-up doesn't bother you since you are possibly getting babies in the near future then CONGRATS!

It could be worse, like if they were both males and one was pregnant.... :P

I bought the male pastel (as a female) for female price which I am upset about, but the breeder will not reply to my email. I'll blow it off if this works out. I had the snakes sexed at zoo creatures not NERD, sorry. So I'm pretty sure she is pregnant.

For the person asking she weighs ~2900g now and around 2 months ago weighed ~2300g. Pregnant? Also she has a noticeably fatter second half of her body and when I feel her underside it feels like I'm pushing in on a balloon.

as for contacting the breeder, good luck with that and i hope it works out for you.

If the breeder doesnt get back to you, definately post on the board of inquiry on fauna, it might get you some results

You really should have learnt to sex snakes before attemtping to breed them.

If you're unable to sex your animals you'll find a lot of females you're sold mysteriously sexing as male.

I did sex the pastel that was sold to me as female. Like I said I thought It was a male, but hoped it wasn't, so I brought into zoo creatures they sexed her as female so I thought it was fine.

Who was the breeder of the pastel?

Here's a picture of her. I don't know if you can tell if she is pregnant from the pics, but I didn't want to disturb her too much. Also something to note is the way she is curled up like that. She has never done that before.

I found him off kingsnake, his name is Jason and the name of his "business" is J & H Reptiles. His website doesn't work anymore.

She should lay within the next 2 weeks, as she shed a week or two ago. I'll keep everyone updated, but I'm pretty certain she is pregnant. Anyone know of cases of hermaphrodites in Ball Pythons? I breed saltwater fish and they change sex very often so I just figured maybe it's possible with snakes, though this probably isn't the case.

Well, i would be a little upset with the price of the pastel, but, you got a big normal female that hes breeding for a males price, and youll have morphs THIS YEAR. So hey. Cant be all that bad eh?

Id definitely post about the guy on the Fauna Board of Inquiry though. Its good to have buyer reviews like that on the site to warn others.

Alright, I'm going to post about him on the Fauna board now.

Well she just laid the eggs last night/this morning. She laid 9 healthy eggs. :D Their now in the incubator. I 'm so excited. This all turned out great, but I'm still amazed at the fact that both snakes were missexed and HOW LUCKY I am.

Congratulations! This is a pretty awesome story!! :) Here's to great odds and lots of pastel babies.

As promised... Don't worry about the heat pad, I have it hooked up to a thermostat and I turned it down so the eggs wouldn't get burnt. And ignore the messiness, that's from the peat moss and she's been moving everything around and I didn't wan't to disturb her to clean,
