Thermostats
Hey, I'm looking into a good T-stat that can maintain temps in atleast 3 different enclosures.
I took a look at the reptitemp500 but it looks like it wasn't made very well. Im for something quality. I'd like to spend around $80-100 at most.
What would you all reccomend?

Re: Thermostats
Ranco thermostat from www.reptilebasics.com
3 different temps or the same temps?

Re: Thermostats
3 different, sorry for not clarifying.
If an admin could edit that into my first post I would appreciate it.

Re: Thermostats
Your going to need to get either 3 Ranco thermostats at 75 smackers each. ORRRRRR you can invest in a Herpstat Pro, which easily controls 4 different temperatures. But they're a little pricey, 300+ bucks. i have one though, and its a godsend.
You COULD use dimmers on your heaters, I don't like it, so I don't recommend it, but that is an option.

Im using dimmers currently. Is there a cheaper way to go than $300 for a herpstat?

Re: Thermostats
No problem Zack, those Zoomed or Reptitemp thermostats WILL work, but they're notorious of failing.
I even think if you order 3 stats from Reptile Basics, they start getting cheaper.
Glad to help

Re: Thermostats
I just got a johnson thermostat control for 60 bucks ( new) and I loving it . It will run all 17 ft of flexwatt with no problems. I got another friend checking on the pricing for a second one for my next rack I hope to build this summer.
I find it a bit of a pain to wire up with a 3 prong cord but I cheated and used my electronics schooling and instead of triyng to stuff the wires though the little hole .I just made a fancy pig tails and solder them in place then tapped it up. This way all I had to do is run my connections and it all set and nice and strong too since all contact are tinned and trimmedto fin inside their plug hold.. I then taped along the lower botten of the unit the cord to take any strain from the cords weight ..

When I get them, I'm getting them pre-wired.

Re: Thermostats
I like my Helix thermostats. I picked up one up on kingsnake for $50 used and it works perfectly. Johnsons have a good track record as well, so I don't think you can go wrong with them.
