Lessers and... make for... ?
I know it's vague. However. I am looking into possibly getting my first ball pythons in the coming months. My favourite morph at the moment are lessers. There's just something about them that I really really like. I've also seen some of the morphs that can result from breeding them.
I did see that lesser bees and queen bees are possible from lesser breedings. However, I'm not the biggest fan of spiders. (Maybe if I find the right one?) I do however like a nice pastel, but it has to really glow to catch my eye.
At the end of the day I was just wondering what some other interesting breeding projects are that can involve lessers? I know sky's probably the limit, but c'mon... help a newb out. :D
I'm more attracted to lighter coloured, bright morhs, opposed to the darker ones, if that helps.
Thanks for any help!

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
My favorites are Kingpin (Pin X Lesser), Lesser Hypo, Black Pastel Lesser, Pewter Lesser, and Pastel Lesser.

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
well if you like bright white, get two lessers and make yourself some Blue Eye Lucys!! That is ofcourse if you happen to have about $1200 bucks laying around to get 2 lessers.

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
I agree with Deborah on the kingpin, it's the reason I got my lesser and pinstripe in the first place. But I also really want to make some blue eyed leucistics some day. I think that lessers make the brightest of the white snakes.

I don't really like the bright bright white, or patternless white, actually. I've seen the blue eyed lucies. They look a bit odd, heh. I'm also not a fan of piebalds with more than 50% white, for example. I don't know what it is... But hey, I am a sucker for blue eyes so you never know. ;)
What are the chances of breeding out blue-eyed lucies from a lesser x lesser pairing?
And is there anyone who has done a lesser x bumble bee? Is that NERD's queen bee?

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
I think that lesser X lesser will give you %25 chance at a BEL.

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
You can also get a female mojave, which would be a bit cheaper, but would allow you to make clean leucies as well.

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
yeah, mojos would be a little bit cheaper route to a BEL but i think they are trying to work with lessers.

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
Mojave's dont make clean lessers, most of the time they have a purpleish/grey head
-
Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
I'm not trying to make BELs... so... :confuse: LOL.
I don't want to work with ONLY lessers. I'd just like to have one and was wondering what would go nice with it. ;)

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
Yes the Bumble Bee to Lesser Produces a Queen Bee, you could go Lesser Fire, Lesser Woma, and just about any other morph you can think of if you want to try Lesser Albino go ahead. All up to what you like the major combos have been listed for you already.
Hope this Helps

not quite right. Mojaves make lovely clean BELs when bred to either a lesser or a butter. the super mojave (mojave x mojave, many breeders have stopped calling them BELS now) does have the marked head.
Mojos are excellent BEL makers :)
the Op wants to make lesser combos, not just work with lessers only.
We work with the lesser platty gene, and after being so blown away by our hypo mojave boy we're certainly going to head dowen the hypo lesser route. Hypo lesser platty pastels and hypo lesser pletty fires are going to look just awesome.

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
I'm surprised only one person has mentioned the pastel lesser. I think those are very attractive and easy & inexpensive to make as well.

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
My 3 favs are Pastel Lesser, Black Pastel Lesser, Pinstripe Lesser .

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
Queen Bee. That coffee tan striping and those green eyes.. ooyah. Lesser x bumble bee...

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
Thanks so much for all the ideas folks! Man my head is totally spinning now. :O
The possibilities seem to be pretty endless, it seems. I guess I'll have to scout around and just see what morphs/sexes are available and go from there!

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
one thing to check out is other morphs in the BEL complex. I'm a fan of butters and lessers, but think that butters are in general just a LITTLE nicer looking(for what I look for in a ball python at least).

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
The nice thing about Lessers and Butters is the clean yellow coloration they exhibit. I would attempt to intensify this trait. So...
Lesser x Pastel
Lesser x Pinstripe (Pins bring out an intense orange/yellow)
Lesser x Enchi (my personal choice)

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
Butters have a touch too much yellow for my liking I think.

Just remember you will need a woma with the hidden gene to produce the sould sucker ;)

Re: Lessers and... make for... ?
WOMA LESSER! Kingpins are also awesome. I'd like to see a lesser brightened up by a fire! Jason Bowden

You folks just keep pumping out the ideas, don't ya? Well I guess the possibilities are endless! Now I've got far too many ideas in my head and don't seem to have th pocket book to finance them all, haha.
Slowly and steady... Just gotta remind myself of that. Slow and steady. ;)
I'm liking the idea of getting a bumble bee to make some queen bees with a lesser. Not entirely sure about the pastel alone or enchi or fire. I'm having so much trouble keeping all these morphs straight. I'm such a newb. :weirdface
I also have to figure out what I want to get as a male and what I want to get as a female. And track down the perfect specimens of each type. I've noticed that there are big differences in the looks of some of the snakes. I've seen some of some morphs that aren't so nice and others that simply blow me away.

The key is definitely holding out until you find the perfect example of the morph. I was very selective when building my collection. :)
