my room is always cold...
Is that bad for my ball python? I have a heating pad under his tank and every time I handle him he is warm. I was just wondering if it would affect his health in any way
Re: my room is always cold...
Hi, yes if you ambient temp is too low it could affect your BP's health. Your cool side should be around 82F and your hot side should be around 92F. If your cool side lower than the desired temp, you could use a heat lamp, or a room heater. I use an oil filled radiator for my snake room.
Hope this helps.
Re: my room is always cold...
Well you should be measuring the ambient temp in your snakes enclosure. If it is too low, you could either get another UTH and set it to 82* on your thermostat or you could get a CHE (this will suck up the humidity though).
Re: my room is always cold...
I got a heat lamp. the hot side is 90-92 degrees and the cool side is around 80. thanks you guys. =]
Re: my room is always cold...
ugh, my room is usually too cold too, but its hot (like 95 degrees) outside and we haven't kicked on the air yet. sooo, my room is also 95 degrees... i wish i was where you are.....

Re: my room is always cold...
tyler I keep my house in like the 60 degree range I like it really cold but my snake room has electric heater in it. Plus all there flexwatt and radiant heat and everything.
Your only about 3 hours from me I was in myrtle beach last weekend
Re: my room is always cold...
ok, so i read this question and the responses and i'm a bit confused. i haven't purchased a BP yet, and am trying to research as much as possible.
the room i would like to keep my BP in is usually pretty cool, sometimes almost cold. the temps in the enclosure are most important? and how much of an effect does the room temp have to do with things?
i don't know if the OP was going in this direction or not, but i was confused by the responses.
Re: my room is always cold...
If your room temp is around 70* the ambient temp in the enclosure will be about the same. This usually means your cool side will be around 70* and not the reccommended 80-85*. You can either raise the temps of the whole room, or add another heat source (CHE, Light bulb, or another heating pad).
Re: my room is always cold...
ok, so if i have 2 UTHs (1 on hot side, 1 on cold side) and a fairly good enclosure i should be ok? sorry if i sound like an idiot...just want to make sure i get things done the right way the first time.
Re: my room is always cold...
Yep, but you will need a thermostat and a dimmer to run that setup. Plug the hot side directly into the thermostat and plug the cool side into the dimmer and then into the thermostat so you can dial the temp down.
Re: my room is always cold...
ok, that was the plan to begin with. just wanted to capitalize on someone else's question to make sure i had things right in my head.
thanks so much. now i'm just that much closer to being able to finally look for the right snake.
