thinking about getting a blood, LOTS of info needed pls & ty
Hey this post is for the blood experts.
First off what are some of the best sites for LOTS of complete/accurate info? I know very little about them & most of the sites give very basic info so I don't know how much is true or incomplete or???.
How do they compare/differ to BP's? heat/humidity/cage sizes from hatchling to adult? Can an adult be housed in a 41qt BP rack? After qt of course. I heard they are usually good eaters but you have to be careful because they can become obese. Does this mean they are less likely to go on hunger strikes? Which would be helpful as I could use a garbage disposal around here lol
Are they within the 1 person handling range? I know they can be less then friendly but if held often when young does this help at all?
I keep looking at pics and find myself wanting 1 more & more, I love the shape of their heads & fat chunky bodies. Though I can't tell the difference yet between the different bloods lol Any recommendations as to which one I should truly focus on w/ my research? :)
So yeah all the info you have, please pass it along to me. Im not sure if I will get one someday or not, it all depends on what I learn about them & if they are my kinda snake. I really want one though :)
Thanks in advance, I appreciate it!

Real quick....
http://www.vpi.com/publications/bloo...ation_and_care
http://www.newenglandreptile.com/CareBlood.html
Dont listen to other sites, also join www.bloodpythons.com, lots of good guys over there as well as great, quality, information.
1. These guys rarely ever move. And are like most pythons as babies, nippy. But regularly handled these snakes make VERY rewarding captive specimens. And with a handful of morphs becoming available with Blood Pythons right now, it's a VERY exciting time to be getting into bloods!
2. Cage sizes as adults are normally 4x2ft by 11 to15 inches tall. Some bigger specimens can do well in 6 foot cages. But the 4 footers are the most popular, and what I use.
3. Great eaters, I only have a few that won't eat in shed. Other wise, 100% eat, every single week. Don't use them as a disposal, they have slower metabolisms and require less food. Slower digestion plus too big of a meal can equal problems.
4. Certainly handleable by 1 person. My 2 biggest are handled by me alone, around the 5 foot or more range and 15+ pounds each.
5. Theres Borneo Breitensteini, Python Curtus, and Python Brongersmai.
6. Curtus=black blood pythons
Breit=borneo blood pythons
Brongersmai=red blood pythons
7. Those 3 in order are smallest to largest, although there are variances!!! I'd just find which one you like best and go from there!
8. Pm me for any more info if needed, theres a few blood keepers on here also.

I meant to say Python Breitensteini in my first post :D Are you having an easy time finding examples of what each sub-species looks like? Like I said, a few members on here have some pretty animals of each species. Ive got a few pictures I can throw up, Connie (littleindiangirl) has some real nice animals too.
This is an albino Python Brongersmai, a T+, still pretty tiny. Around 6 or 700grams

So I talked it over w/ my fiance and we dont have the room for a 4x2 enclosure right now :( I was hoping one would have requirements as a ball cuz I have room in there. lol
How long (1,2,3 yrs?) until one would need an adult sized cage, maybe by then Id have the room as we REALLY want to move..(wishful thinking)

Depends on each animal, some don't do so well in smaller enclosures and need a bigger cage sooner than others. But I'd say, around 2 years old they'll be ok in an adult enclosure. Of course each one varies, but I wouldn't think any sooner than that. Yeah the Bangka Bloods are neat for sure! They're not as common as the other localities and are thought to be one of the nippier localities. If you can talk the significant other into it, these snakes are unlike balls in a lot of ways. They're awesome captive animals, great to work with, and a nice medium sized animal for anyone with a little experience. Let me know if I can be of anymore help. T

At least you two are being honest with each other.
I also want to point out though, the babies are still only a hundred grams or so. Depending on how they grow, you could still be looking at a 40 qt tub.

Hahah! She's a big ball of mood right now! I've got some pics... but I'm waiting for her to shed once more and get all comfy before we take any more pics.
I've got some pretty neat animals over here, but you do too if I remember correctly. ;D

i will tell you right now, most of the scare tactics you see all over, are really just that. scare tactics! Lots of the info can be really incorrect too.
Read up on the different species, and you will learn SO MUCH :)
I love my little Python curtus ( Black Blood )! Hes an absolute doll!

hmmmmmm lol
Also its not that my fiance is the one saying no, its both of us because of the issue of space or the lack of lol.
We just need to think it through more, Im sure I could make a 4x2 cage fit but it would be cramped... Be cramped now.., or wait until we find a bigger place to live... Thats what it boils down to.

Re: thinking about getting a blood, LOTS of info needed pls & ty
I know what you're saying! I can't get to my bookshelves because of all the mouse/rat/roach/cricket/reptile cages all over the floor!
Has anyone heard of The Blood Line? (www.thebloodline.net) I emailed the owner about normal hatchlings, and the prices are better than NERD's. Anybody have anything to say about this place? Good? Bad?

Great! He seems great, but I found the site of Google, so I wasn't sure, and I have had some bad experiance with a breeder I wasn't sure about.
