Your urgent help is needed!
Bp.Net ... we had a little bit of a set back in Washington ... the other side is feeling the heat and striking back!
Please read http://www.nohr669.com/hotitem.htm and take action now!
If you've only sent one email through www.nohr669.com, go back and send another ... and another.
This is as serious as it gets! They are after us and the animals that we love!
I can't express enough thanks for all of the help we've gotten so far but we have to ask for more.
5 more days to either change the world or have our world changed forever.
Please help .... now!

Aye Aye Captain!
I've been sending emails everyday for all the people that ok'd it so far. Have a list with names emails and adresses that I run through. Quite the routine now :)

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
Why hasn't this reached a National level?? Surely many congressman and congresswomen have pets, too?? I've watched enough news these days and have yet to see anyone mention this bill. Even our local petstore is clueless. Am I missing something?
-
Re: Your urgent help is needed!
Alot of people don't realize that if the bill passes, pet hamsters, gerbils and all that comes to a stop.
-
Re: Your urgent help is needed!
To my understanding, if the bill passes, the government will take our animals away and either export them or kill them at our expense. Is this correct?
-
Re: Your urgent help is needed!
I don't believe our current pets are part of that. I don't see them trying to take our animals away that we already have established with us. Then I don't see some of us giving up our animals even if that were to hold true, NOBODY is taking my pets I have established here, PERIOD.

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
I'd like to know how they plan to implement this bill. Where is the money going to come from? Who's going to pay for the staff needed to retrieve any illegal animals? Are they going to go door to door to people's houses? With the econmomy tanking, are they seriously going to take the risk of putting pet stores out of operation and contributing this countries already increasing unemployment? Secondly, when they announce this bill (if it passess) The outcry then, I think, will be immense. Don't get me wrong, I've done my part and will continue to do more. This is just another reason, I HATE big government!

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
You've got to be kidding me. Great to hear our voice is being heard. But this isnt just about "pets"! This is also about the economic impact this is going to have on our nation and the citizens taht are going to go bankrupt if this passes! Obviously another cas of Washington just not getting it. There's something more to this I just know it.

Umm. We already know that, anybody who reads the bill knows that, but people like me are rather concerned about our pets also.

No. I think you're confused with the bill that was passed in Connecticut.
This bill has a grandfather clause but unfortunately we will not be able to buy or breed the rodents required to feed our snakes. So they would eventually wither away and die of starvation.

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
Neal,
I agree totally. My pets are my pets and I love them unconditionally. And I'm not giving them up to anyone.

What I was referring to is this, “All such prohibited mammals, birds, fish (including mollusks and crustacea), amphibians, and reptiles, and the eggs or offspring therefrom, shall be promptly exported or destroyed at the expense of the importer or consignee.” Which is from this is from this website: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/ht...2----000-.html . The code above was linked from the HR669 website section 5 – a – 2: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill...?bill=h111-669 .

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
I mean when a congressional staffer says "peoples "pets" will be included on the approved list" and say my "pet" is a retic, and that species happens to be one of the animals being targeted, then its apparent that they are trying to do all they can just to get us to shut up.

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
(2) As used in this subsection, the term “wild” relates to any creatures that, whether or not raised in captivity, normally are found in a wild state; and the terms “wildlife” and “wildlife resources” include those resources that comprise wild mammals, wild birds, fish (including mollusks and crustacea), and all other classes of wild creatures whatsoever, and all types of aquatic and land vegetation upon which such wildlife resources are dependent.
Uh....wouldn't this apply to every pet in the world basically?

Section 3 (f) of bill HR 669
Quote:
(f) Animals Owned Lawfully Prior to Prohibition of Importation- This Act and regulations issued under this Act shall not interfere with the ability of any person to possess an individual animal of any species if such individual animal was legally owned by the person before the risk assessment is begun pursuant to subsection (e)(3), even if such species is later prohibited from being imported under the regulations issued under this Act.

Alright thanks. I hope your are right. I would hate for them to first take my animals, and then have me pay for them to destroy them.

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
I have sent out more letters and emails. I have made several phone calls to my local representatives. I have also contacted my local pet stores about this bill and I actually got a respsonse from one of them. They are totally against this bill and couldn't agree more with the devastation that it could produce if passed. They are helping to fight agaisnt this bill. I have emailed Petsmart and Petco. I have not heard from them yet reagarding this bill but I sure do hope they join the fight against it.

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
I don't mean to pee on you guy's parade but emails just don't make the impact that letters do.
I have a lawyer friend that's also a business partner of mine and he tells me that emails really are not as good as sending a hard copy letter.
Think about this for a minute. If you received thousands of emails everyday would you really read all of them everyday? I think not. You might make an effort for sometime but after a while you'd probably just glance over them then delete them.
I AM NOT saying emails are useless. They are easy enough to do so why not do it, but I just hate to see people send an email and that's all.
Now the above could be said about letters. But think about this: If someone handed you all kinds of letters about the same thing you would not read them all but just think about the impact in your mind it would make. You'd be like holy crap that's a lot of letters.
PEOPLE NEEDED TO SEND LETTERS.
I'd also like to bring up something else. In case no one else has thought about it. We may win this battle but then they'll just come back with another bill and pin point us (reptile people) next. When they do that, we'll lose all the large corporate support like PetSmart and PETCO that we have now. They will not put there necks out for a very small portion of their business. I'd be surprised if reptiles made up 2%-5% of PetSmarts and PETCO's annual business. And for all we know the reptile portion of their business may be more effort to support than the rest. Would you put out a huge effort to save a small percent of your business? Some may but a majority would just move on and focus on the other larger portion of their revenue.
JUST THINK ABOUT IT.
I'm not saying people aren't doing their part. I'm just trying to motivate those people that think just sending emails will stop this from happening.

I don't know why anyone in the fight against HR 669 would say anything to discourage one method or another .... PIJAC (the organization LEADING this fight in Washington D.C.) has advised that emails, phone calls, letters, and in person meeting are ALL equally effective tools in fighting against HR 669. They each have their different draw backs and that's why they must ALL be done.
Divisiveness, no matter how slight, isn't going to help. Encouraging people to do as much as they possibly can with EVERY method of communication to Congress is the way we can and will win. Why not be an advocate for all methods equally ... why not do WHATEVER it takes.
I'm in contact daily with the head lobbyist for the pet industry and emails, letters, phone calls, and meeting are all having an impact ... keep it up!
Thank you for your time.

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
I could say a lot more about a lot of people and online websites that could be doing more to stop this but I will not.
The problem I'm having Adam is most people feel that if they send an email they have made the largest impact they could have made and they are now done.
Then most people are just telling people to go to nohr669.com and send emails and that's all.
I think nohr669.com is a great website, it just kills me when people think it's the only way to win this fight.

I know of no one that is just telling anyone to just send emails, and I'm talking to people ALL day on the phone and in emails. If I heard someone saying to just do one of anything, I would stand up and tell them that they are wrong. If you'd like to point me at anyone saying to just send emails, I'd be happy to tell them what an idiot they are.
I applaud you for being passionate about sending letters, but if you were equally passionate about having people email, call, and arrange in person meetings, think about how much better off we'd all be.
Just my thoughts for whatever they are worth.
Thank you.

Re: Your urgent help is needed!
I say do them all, send emails, make phone calls, try to arrange meetings, and encourage everybody you know weither they keep snakes or not to do so. This will have a huge impact on alot of things. I've sent emails and made phone calls, and i'm trying to arrange a meeting also so i can really get in depth.

Please remember that the major post I have done on here and other places are a step by step tutorial.
This is not a pieing match but, every time I tell people to do anything I tell them about nohr669.com. But I always tell them to send letters first before I tell people to do anything else.
Why do I do that? Because I feel it makes the largest impact.
It's the same reason you always tell people to send emails and go to nohr6699.com before letters. You may feel they make the largest impact.
I found out about this whole HR669 crap late but have been trying to make up for it. I know people that have no interest in the bill at all our even care about reptiles or other animals but they know how our government works and I'm doing and supporting what they and I feel will make the largest impact.
